Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor are both dead, which is a shame.

Richard talked when he and Gene were filming Stir Crazy and went to the Arizona State Penitentiary to prepare for filming....

Gene Wilder loved to jump in the middle of the killers and start talkin’, “Hi guys! How ya doin’?”

I said, “Gene, bring your ass out.”

“What do you think they’d do to us if we were here, Rich?”

I said, “F___ us.”

And Gene said, “I’m not homosexual.”

“Homosexual ain’t got nothin’ to do with it. They don’t ___ you ‘cause you like it. They just ___ you just to see that look on your face.”

They shot a scene for this movie in my hometown of Brea CA. It was a big deal back in my HS years in what was then a sleepy North Orange County Town.

“Remember before Motown, No black or white music stations”

That’s not true. That’s why they were looking for somebody like Elvis: a white singer that could sing black music, only less black.

Don’t forget that Elvis got boo’ed off the stage at the Grand Old Opry.

“Black and white kids dancing on Dick Clarks show to both black and white performers and singers.”

Frankie Lymon created a huge scandal by dancing with a white girl on Bandstand.

Great soundtrack by Mancini. Had it in 6th grade on 8-track. Really miss it.

Having lived in the Philly area during the Bandstand years, I have to say there weren’t many black kids in the dancing crowd. Those who were regulars were carefully screened whites. Group performers were black and white true.

During the years I watched American Bandstand and Soul Train, the white dancers on Bandstand just could not compare. Soul Train dancers were awesome. I also found Don Cornelius far, far cooler than Dick Clark.

“How we have changed been manipulated.”

So subtly, it seems except for those of us who are aware. Unfortunately, many of us are lazy, or not interested in the subtle changes of life. IMO

Agree completely. Philly had its own places where the white kids could check out the music and dancing moves they tried to show on Bandstand.

Dick Clark was an emergency fill in for the original Bandstand host, Bob Horn, who got fired for messing with one of the young girls. Dick was not hip at all but he stayed clean and got lucky.
