"The discovery of a new type of Homo is of great scientific importance," said anthropologist Israel Hershkovitz of Tel Aviv University in Israel, lead author of a paper describing the bones.
Hey, I'm sure I'm not the first on that, but it was going to happen, so, thought I'd make my own fun. ;^) Thanks Red Badger, interesting find.

Most people today carry known Neandertal DNA — and that’s based on the DNA isolated from just a few individuals. Most people carry as much or somewhat more Neandertal DNA as they do the DNA of each of 46 of their great-great-great-great-great-grandparents, who were obviously not nearly as long ago.

"In a weird coincidence, I just learned last year that humans are the only primate that has a 'chin.' In fact, we're the only animal on the planet with a chin. There's not even a universally accepted theory on why our evolution produced chins. "

Sexual selection?

That’s one of the several hypothesis. Some think that as our faces shrank (other primates have much bigger faces relative to head size than humans do), perhaps the chin became a kind of plumage like birds will sometimes use to attract mates.

For the longest time, the prevailing opinion was that the chin developed to better help leverage chewing forces. But, a few years ago, that was largely debunked by researchers. Somehow, the were able to demonstrate the size of the chin had no bearing on bite force.

So, it’s either sexual selection, speech related or perhaps just an meaningless artifact of evolution.

It is said that our jaws/faces shrank because we began to cook our food and didn't need massive jaws to eat, the food was softer, etc.
Many people today have dental problems (to many teeth for a smaller mouth) because of smaller jaws/faces.

I've read about studies that show people find smaller faces more attractive. Also, that women from NW Europe are considered the most attractive in the world.

Not necessarily, Levant also refers to Lebanon and Palestine, and I think parts of Jordan and Syria.

A donkey and a horse have a different number of chromosomes. Therefore cannot yield live young. Tigers and lions have the same number of chromosomes, and have produced hybrids.
