United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken arrived in Germany on Wednesday and made clear that maintaining good relations would Berlin would be high on Washington’s agenda.

“I think it’s fair to say that the United States has no better partner, no better friend in the world than Germany,” Blinken said.

The visit is his second to Europe in just seven days, having accompanied President Joe Biden to leaders’ meetings at the G7 and NATO summits.

The US has been quick to emphasize the idea of a fresh start to relations with Germany, with Biden recently saying they were now “stronger than ever.” German Chancellor Angela Merkel didn’t go quite so far, saying, “We are building on a long history of good German-American relations.”

Merkel pointed to multilateralism as the key to problem-solving, noting that it was important not only to “call out geopolitical challenges by name, but also to craft solutions to them together.” She was also quick to add, “No matter what controversy we are talking about, we must always keep our channels of communication open.” …

Well thank you for a very nice post. And yes I have Irish ancestors. 100% Irish. I think I may have confused you. I don't have Asperger's. My grandson does.

As to the immigration situation we're being replaced. The Democrats want a subservient and dependent population that will keep them in office forever and too many gutless RINOS are complicit in this. Interestingly the Hart-Cellar Bill, which did away with our quota system was written by freshman Senator from Massachusetts, Ted Kennedy. I've always felt that when it came to that bunch they didn't shoot enough of them.

Yup. Almost all of them are real mouthy and entitled.

Especially the Greeks. Nasty bunch.

Never mind. My pleasure :-)

And the Irish are a fascinating nation with a wonderful culture. Irish is the first language of which written documents remain after the fall of the Latin language as a vernacular in the 5th century.
It was Irish missionaries who brought the light of Christianity back to large parts of Europe after the “pagan backlash” after the end of the West Roman empire in 476.

And in this thread there has been talk of nice words in diplomacy: well, diplomacy is the art of using honeyed words towards making good will versus another nation.

Many sweet words are said towards this end: just imagine when in 1945 the President of Ireland gave his condolences to the German ambassador on the death of Hitler. Don’t think the President was that sad, but at least he saved the ambassador’s “diplomatic face” in public.

In fact, tens of thousands of Irish men had been working in British factories during the “emergency” and hundreds of them lost their lives in the war.
Some featherbrained British journos denounced the Irish for not declaring war on the Axis powers - just shows that they have no clue. Others were angry about the fact that Ireland, after the cessation of hostilities, sent milk powder to Germany to save starving infants and children (one of them happened to be my late father).
That ought to tell you something about the ethics and morals of these journos in question... Good that there are Britons whose stance was and is milder and more humane on that matter.

And what concerns immigration: in Europe it’s the same crap with replacement. Of course, in their best Orwellian manner, the governments and their journo mouthpieces stoutly deny that there is a movement afoot to replace Europeans by aliens. Diversity is not a strength, but a weakness.
You talked about the behavior of Greek immigrants in American hospitals: here it’s generally Turks and Arabs who are the worst-behaved. Even Africans, for the most part, are not as terrible.

Judging by their behavior, in this case and in general, to me it’s little wonder that their countries of origin are stuck with the dysfunctional societies which they have.
