DELRAY BEACH, Fla. — A Florida man was arrested after he intentionally did a “burnout” across a Pride-themed street mural earlier this week.
Witnesses said Alexander Jerich, 20, peeled out in his white Chevrolet Silverado around 8 p.m. Monday through the recently painted intersection, WPBF reported.
“This is a deliberate act of violence against the LGBTQ community,” Rand Hoch, founder and president of the Palm Beach Human Rights Council, told WFOR. “We’ve made such progress here in the last 30 years on LGBTQ issues. To see someone do something like this took me by surprise.”
Jerich was participating in a parade in honor of former President Donald Trump’s birthday that was organized by the Palm Beach County Republican Executive Committee, WPTV reported. The political committee did not comment to WPTV about the incident.
A witness who participated in the rally came forward Wednesday to police. He said he heard someone yell “tear up that gay intersection” before Jerich drove through it, WPTV reported. A license plate search led investigators to Jerich, WPTV reported. A witness also identified Jerich from a photo lineup.
Jerich turned himself in Thursday and was arrested and charged with criminal mischief over $1,000, reckless driving and evidence of prejudice, WPTV reported. He was later released on bond.
“Kudos to the Delray Beach Police Department for swiftly identifying and arresting this hateful criminal,” Hoch told WPBF.
The mural, which includes 11 colors and symbolizes unity, cost more than $16,000, WFOR reported.

Unless the paint is DOT approved to not diminish road surface traction, the painting will be a traffic hazzard.
Coating a roadway surface will change the traction adhesion of the road.
The paint itself is a factor, add any moisture and the surface will be a hazzard to traffic flow and safety.

If it costs $16,000 to paint one intersection(ality) how much does it cost for a city to paint crosswalks in the entire city limits.
A Mexican restaurant about a mile from me closed (permanently) during the shutdown, and was soon covered with BLM graffiti. Two months ago, they repainted the building to cover the graffiti, probably with an eye to selling or re-leasing the property. Now graffiti is beginning to reappear on the freshly painted building. No big deal, I guess.

Chalk. IF one paints on the street, it should be viewed as a temporary, virtue-signaling exhibit. And one should expect tire tracks, oil stains, coolant stains, kids doing wheelies or ‘drifting’, etc. as happens on every street that are used by the general public without rising to hysterics. Perhaps we can go back to allowing only chalk drawings, so people can accept they are doing something only temporary.
But the real question is: Why would someone who burns and degrades the American flag be so defensive of the pride flag? Why would a group that rejects heterosexual lifestyles with contempt, demand that heterosexuals accept homosexual lifestyles that now include the active and public recruitment of their children?
It was gays that led the drive against PDA in heteros (and that limits christian activities). If one needs stay ‘in the bedroom’ it should work both ways.
