NEW YORK — If there was a growing mental health crisis before 2020, a new study finds the coronavirus pandemic may have sent it spiraling out of control. Half of Americans feel they lost complete control of their lives during the last year.

A survey of 2,000 people reveals 47 percent feel helpless, while 44 percent say they hit their lowest emotional point within the last year. Since last March, Americans report struggling more with anxiety (42%), depression (37%), and loneliness (31%) than ever before.

Aside from half my grocery items getting cancelled, I was fine.

Yes, but only because Biden blatantly stole the election during the pandemic. COVID had nothing to do with my “emotional low point.”

My kids hit their highest emotional point not having to go to school for an extended period, than switching to at home distance learning. (what a joke)

I’ve been working from my home office the last 14 years, so nothing changed for me.

My company paid me for a month to stay home. That little taste of retirement led to actually retiring several months later when they offered a buyout package. I’m so sad...not!

I’d like to see a breakdown of this study based on political party. I’m guessing most conservatives did just fine.

That means none of them lost a family member or a beloved pet. This study is a joke!

Yes I had a good year other than that.

It's sort of like saying "Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?"

For me, I think it was the day after election day. And hasn’t bounced back to “normal”, even yet.

Wonder how people like you decided to pull the plug even without a buyout package?

One younger relative in his 50’s told his boss not to send him home to work if the boss still wanted him to work. He is still working and his boss, who is far away still wants him to stay.

Another young guy with a real rectum for a boss stayed home for a couple of weeks and still got Covid. He missed work for a month due to his Covid and a couple of weeks of not working with pay. He went to the overall boss and said I can’t work with X anymore. He got a new job and is not working with X.

A owner of a medium restaurant used the closing to make it permanent and will reopen a smaller restaurant without any of the previous employees.

A female relative is back with her exercise classes business, part time, and she became a partner in a new online business when on of the other partners left the business.

Another woman had/has a good following with her personal trainer program. She has shed the clients, who were more problems than their monthly fees.

Owners of strip malls and other small stores have told many clients, that they have until the end of this month to sign new contracts with price increases. The property owners are getting rid of the dead beat renters.

My husband and I did not have any issues except for putting on a little weight since I could spend more time in the kitchen. : )

>> Half of Americans feel they lost complete control of their lives during the last year.

It was painfully obvious that we HAD lost complete control of our lives.

- Businesses were prohibited from opening.
- Churches were closed to the public.
- Freedom of travel between the states was restricted (paperwork and quarantines could be in effect).

On top of that the election was stolen by edict of judges and governors who did not have the power to change election law (that resides with the legislatures).

Thank you for your service. My lowest emotional point in recent years would have been April 20, 2020. My husband had been in the hospital on a ventilator for a week, having gone by ambulance at 2 a.m. a week earlier, and that was the day they said I could come in to actually see him, so I could say goodbye, because he had not been responsive for many hours.

So I stayed home from work, and remember getting dressed that morning, trying to “look good” in case he would have any awareness of me being there, etc., and I had to wait for the hospital to call to tell me when I could come, and where to go in, etc. (this was when all the Covid-19 protocols for isolation were just getting wings).

So I had to wait at home for the call, trying to keep my emotions together, so I would be able to drive to the hospital. And they finally called and said they had weaned back his sedation a bit, and he seemed to be waking up.....

Then he was taken off the vent in a couple more days, and then moved out of ICU, then moved to a nursing home/rehab place by the end of the week. It all had a good ending, and luckily his room at the rehab had a first-floor window, so we could visit him outside his window for the 4+ weeks until he could come home.

PS He did not have Covid, but it took 3 days to get his Covid test results back, during which time they gave him the hydroxychloroquine and zinc treatment, which may have saved his life.

But then my story reminds me of the many, many people who lost a loved one during this past year and a half, and were not able to say good bye or to comfort their loved ones, in their final days.
