The Soviets inflicted a terrible defeat on the Japanese Army in Mongolia in 1939 using air/armor combined arms.

That was some general named "Zhukov" if I recall correctly.

Yup. One of the more competent officers to survive the purges. The Russians I've talked to hate him because they consider him a butcher who wasted his men's lives to curry political favors with Stalin. I liked the way he was portrayed in The Death of Stalin. By forcibly removing NKVD troops from Moscow, he made sure Khrushchev's coup against the psychopath Beria would succeed.
