Our culinary repertoires are bursting at the seams – all thanks to TikTok.
Over the past year, we’ve learned how to make both feta and Boursin pasta, French onion chicken, whipped coffees and more.
But now a new craze on the platform is turning traditional food genres on their head.
People are making their own Oreo sushi, by deconstructing the popular sweet treat and turning it into a Japanese-inspired dessert.
TikTok user @siennasweets_ shows how to reinvent the classic snack at home in one of her videos.
Anyone looking to give it a go should first remove all the Oreo creme, then crush up the cookies and add just enough milk to create a paste-like consistency.
After rolling this out under some cling film or plastic wrap, add the creme on the top and flatten again.
Then use the plastic wrap to roll the ingredients into a sushi-style shape – before cutting into bite-sized chunks.
In the video, @siennasweets_ can then be seen holding a piece with some chopsticks and dunking it into some chocolate sauce.
There’s no denying that this technique does look like a lot of effort to achieve the same Oreo taste, but it seems lots of people are huge fans of this sweet sushi alternative.
One person replied: ‘This is the only sushi I will eat.’
While another said: ‘My kind of sushi.’
In fact, the post has racked up more than 668,000 likes so far.
However, others are less convinced.
One person said: ‘It’s just Oreos 10 steps harder.’
While another commented: ‘I tried it, it’s really sweet and it kinda tastes like a squishy texture [sic].’
Alongside recipes, TikTok is also brilliant for foodie hacks.
I love sushi but absolutely NO to an oreo. NO.
How about some good music...
[which I think will come in handy on some later thread]
I was wondering how the red, white and blue Oreos squared with their contributions to BLM. Maybe this is the pay-off.
Must. Not. Mention. Fried. Chicken. Flavored. Cookies.
/hey...do you smell ozone?
It is a shortcut to a Swiss Roll.
Years ago, I did a “ghetto prom” image search on a dare from someone on FR. I had to stop looking after I saw a picture of a fried chicken corsage. Now, it looks like KFC is making them.
There is nothing you cannot find on the interwebs...even when you don’t really want to.
;)
Please tell me that is not real.
o_O
You dip ‘em in mashed potatoes.
LOL
[what? no pancake syrup?]
As disgusting as pineapple on pizza. Some things in life you don’t mess with. IMHO
Americans will eat damn near anything that is crap .
OMG!
Watermelon Oreos?
No thanks ...
Oh! I see. “Limited Edition?”
Obviously they don’t expect this to be a winner.
So very true.
All of the “poor” people seem to be obese. Just visit a Target or Walmart. My Walmart has a McDonald’s in it!!
Spend your welfare money and get a trip to go!
Trip should be trio
Darn autocorrect!
