The body of 34-year-old Catherine Serou was found Saturday in a wooded area near the city of Nizhny Novgorod, 400 kilometers (250 miles) east of Moscow. She had been missing since Tuesday.
Her mother, Beccy Serou, of Vicksburg, Mississippi, told U.S. National Public Radio that her daughter had last texted her: “In a car with a stranger. I hope I’m not being abducted.”

Russian prison wont be nice to him, some I hear can get disappeared in the prisons.
If she had time to text, she shoul have also taken his photo and texted that too. That would change his thinking.
34-year-old “student”. Okay....
Stranger in a strange land jumps into a stranger’s car. Murder plot writes itself.
What is wrong with being a 34 year old student. Many people go after higher ed after entering work force. My wife is 51 and a student after her Masters.
You got that right. "Lifetime Movies" (a.k.a. "We Hate Men") are allover this story like flies on s***.
LOL.
“34-year-old “student”. Okay....”
...and studying ‘law’ there? Sounds more like an ACTIVIST to me.
” “In a car with a stranger....”
She chose poorly.
God bless her family.
Bio says she was in the Marines prior to this (with one Afghanistan tour). I guess she was enrolled in the Master’s law program in Russia.
I read that and wondered what idiot would jump into a car, while on foreign land (hint, I wouldn't do here in America) of a stranger? Sometimes people ask to be killed.
What?, I am a 56 year old student working on my Masters. But I didn’t get my Bachelors until last year.
I’m 51 and halfway through a Masters program…not sure why you think only kids attend uni…
I’m pushing 60 - thinking about going back and get my GED...
Guy thought he could take advantage of her easily, but must have put up a big fight which led to the victim getting stabbed.
“In a car with a stranger. I hope I’m not being abducted.”
Hope is not a strategy.

No offense to the victim, but whatever happened to situational awareness? I thought that was part of training for anyone in the military. Am I wrong?
I spent a year and a half in Russia (2017-2018) and had a hard time making the decision to come back to the USA. The slightly older-fashioned lifestyle and general personal liberty that the average person can have is very attractive, especially if you live outside of a giant city.
I'm actually in Russia right now, for a nice summer vacation (had to skip last year because of CCP virus).
