WASHINGTON -- In a ruling that could help push changes in college athletics, the Supreme Court on Monday unanimously sided with a group of former college athletes in a dispute with the NCAA over rules limiting certain compensation.
Very good points!
During my time at OU in the 1970's the star football players had shiny new Corvettes and Camaros.
Just loaners for the season I'm sure, as long as it was a winning season and they beat Texas..Oklahoma fans are kinda fickle about that.
college football is dead. it has been espn’s whore for 10 years now.
the people that think the ncaa is the problem also thought the bullsh*t playoff system would fix the college football.
These kids get free educations plus tutors.
We had season tickets to WVU football for years, last year they went woke, I am not gong to throw any more money their way.
Unfortunately, there are few sports that are not woke.
nope- not when the schools and NCAA are making millions off your name and likeness.
They want to expand the CFP from 4 to 12 teams. Who benefits from that?? A college kid whose an NFL prospect that’s going to have to play an extra game or two? Or the NCAA and schools who’ll rake in billions??
meanwhile, if you are going to school on a math or science scholarship, there are no restrictions on the amount of $$ you can make on a side job or intern doing math or science.
Agree with this ruling.
“Amateur” athletics are cash cows for major universities. The athletes generate revenue for the school, often without getting an education.
Same here !
Trying to ignore WVU athletics now, hard to do when you live in Morgantown.
Jim Craig being front and center of your point.
I had the very same experience with a top B10 school. Dumped my txs on the 35 yard line and freed up my Saturday afternoons. I don’t like the coach or his usual 2 loss seasons.
Twenty years ago, I went to a Big 12 school on an academic scholarship.
I knew a woman that was raped by a basketball star (I was working in the dorms, and we were witnesses to the player going to her room and loud noises).
She was given a full ride scholarship to any other state school, as long as she didn’t press charges. We moved her out the next day.
I have also fired more college and semi pro ball players than I have retained. No discipline, no work ethic, major attitude problems. To the point where I will be very careful hiring one in the future.
Make them semi pro teams with the college logo if you must, but this is a farce.
Goodbye College Athletics in general.
Nevertheless goodbye NCAA. It was born out of cheating institutions hiring pro-athletes. Back to the future.
Time to go to Sporting Clubs and Academies, like the rest of the world does.
The colleges\universities can rent out the logo and make money that way.
If you knew what many grad students go through, you wouldn’t feel that way.
Grad students are slave labor, often teach most of the classes, and are paid very little.
While the tenured profs go on vacation. For years.
“...the mainstream media ignores college baseball...”
That’s simple to understand.
Too many white guys in collage basketball. We can’t be supporting that kind of diversity.
Yep.
I actually proposed this some time ago. It would make money in the major markets, but would end a lot of programs.
But I have yet to understand what football has to do with an education, and I love football.
