Pilot GHWB had to ditch into the sea. He was rescued by a USN sub...Japs never grabbed him.

I will not argue the point. I read the book at least 20 years ago, so I’ll concede my error on that detail. That’s my second mistake this year.

James Clavell wrote a Novell by the name of “King Rat” that details some of the atrocities endured by American POWs in Japanese prison camps.
Atomic bombs were some small measure of payback.

My great uncle was taken as a POW while a young Marine when Corregidor fell to the Japanese. He was held for several years, beaten and tortured, while not doing forced labor. He survived and made it back home.
About 20 years ago, I had the honor of meeting Brigadier General Paul Tibbets (USAF, ret) who piloted the “Ebola Gay” B-29 targeting Hiroshima. I gladly and appreciatively thanked him for helping get my uncle and many others back home and WW II ended.

Jeez, talk about misleading headline...
All I saw was a goofy guy in a backward hat. After watching several minutes of it I wanted to commit an atrocity myself.

As evil as the Nazis were they were amateurs compared to the Japanese. Read about the Rape of Nanking.

“Read about the Rape of Nanking.”
I’ve had first hand accounts in my family from the Liberation of Manila.
It seems to me that there was a big difference between Germans and Japanese, when it came to slaughtering civilians and prisoners. Unlike the Germans, it seemed to be the overwhelming norm, that nearly every Japanese soldier would do it, if told to - and they often were.

You are very right. The Japanese were absolute monsters to POWs and civilians. Yes. They need to read up about what happened to Americans and Europeans living in Japan at that time.
I really get sick of hearing about how we evilly interned Japs here in the US. Good old anti-American propaganda.

The Japanese who were occupying Manila, Philippines were very brutal to the civilian population prior to being annihilated by the American Army. They would not surrender, and were blown up block by block by American artillery.

The stories of American GI's stuck in Japanese prison camps are horrible. In 1996 a WWII vet in San Francisco recommended that I read Daws' Prisoners of the Japanese. One story: when the American GI's were rescued, they were packed onto a plane and flown to America. Four GI's accidentally fell out the door of the plane over the Atlantic. After suffering hell for four years and after getting rescued for two days, they died falling out of an American airplane. Another story: when a group GI's were rescued, they asked for five gallons of ice cream, placed all the ice cream on a bed and then rolled and frolicked in the ice cream. One more story: when the American GI's were rescued, a few of them walked over to a Japanese guard, carried him to the nearest well, tossed the guard into the well, and then walked away.
