Let's Figure Out What Kind Of Chrysler They're Talking About In The B-52 Song 'Love Shack' Not the car in the video, what car actually fits what the song says?

It’s pretty definitively summer now, and if the coming of summer doesn’t fill you at least with some residual, school’s-out-tinged joy, then I suppose all I have to offer you is pity. Summer should also mean something else to anyone with a pulse: the 1989 B-52 song “Love Shack.” That song famously references a gigantic Chrysler, and I think it’s time we accurately determined which Chrysler the B-52s are singing about.

I got me a Chrysler, it seats about twenty...

...

Hop in my Chrysler, it’s as big as a whale

And it’s about to set sail

I got me a car, it seats about twenty, so come on

And bring your jukebox money

So, we know three things about the car that Fred wants to drive you down to the Love Shack in: it’s a Chrysler, it’s as big as a whale, and seats “about 20.”

“I had a friend with a 1971 Cadillac Eldorado. It wasn’t 20 but we would occasionally squeeze 12 in there.”

You guys were pikers.
We once fit 10 in a VEGA.
It wasn’t comfy, but we were only going two miles.
It WAS all guys so that made things a bit uncomfortable.

I took drivers ed in 1970. I grew up in Flint, MI and we had a drivers ed track sponsored by local Buick dealers. No one liked driving the Le Sabre because it drove like a boat.

We had one of those, too! It had a 440 Commando that would shift out of first gear @70 mph and I never did find the top end on that land yacht.

But I screwed up badly one evening when I was cutting doughnuts in the school parking lot with the stereo cranked and unbeknownst to me, Pop’s tool box was sitting in the cavernous trunk. I wasn’t home a couple days later when he went to retrieve said tool box, but Mom was and she said you could literally see steam coming out his ears. His tools were scattered everywhere...

I never got to drive that New Yorker again. A year later Pop had had a heart attack, became disabled and then traded it in on a new Datsun Sentra. He got $400 trade-in allowance on it. I cried a little that day...

1950’s Chryslers. Biggest cars around then other than maybe a Cadillac.

I got 8 girls in a 1957 Chevy 210, 4 door. Got 7 in the spare car, a 1955 Chevy 4 door sedan. You must always have a “spare” when helping a friend host a visiting chapter. It says so right in my “dating manual”.

Kinda looks like my dad's old Town & Country wagon, right down to the wood trim. Early 70's model, IIRC. Power everything. Until lightning hit it, then he was lucky it would even start.

Used to have a ‘57 Chrysler 353 hemi back when gas was 33 cents a gallon. Back when the attendants pumped your gas, checked the oil, water, and tire pressure. You were free to take a whizz, get an Orange Crush and a bag of Uncle Tom’s Peanuts. It were a big car.
“How big was it?”
It were so big It had a tennis court in the back seat, a swimming pool in the trunk and a helipad on the roof. I was driving from cross Texas once and my front bumper was in Abilene while my tail fins were still in Texarkana. It took three counties just to turn that car around.

If it was a Ford or Chevy I could tell you, but not as up on my Chryslers.

In any case, the car in question IS IN THE VIDEO! Shouldn’t be TOO hard to identify. DUH!

“Especially for the 2 crammed in the very back!”

They should have remembered the old “First In-Last Out” rule. NEVER agree to be the first in, ya get hosed every time.
And being last isn’t always a cherry either.
