David Niekerk, who helped design the company's warehouse-management system, told the publication that founder Jeff Bezos' belief that people are inherently lazy helped shape the company's policies. He pointed to a short-term employment model that doesn't provide employees many opportunities for advancement and to the way Amazon used technology to keep workers on task. Amazon doesn't guarantee wage increases after a worker's first three years, the report said, as a way to oust employees who might become too comfortable at Amazon. The practices that Niekerk described are some of the company's most contentious - like firing employees for a single day of low productivity and continually keeping workers on task with limited break time and high productivity goals. Amazon's culture and high expectations for employees have also made the company a leader in workplace injuries.

“as a way to oust employees who might become too comfortable at Amazon.”
Yea, why would you want happy employees who actually enjoy doing their jobs? That’s just crazy talk.

When you compare his wealth to what his serfs earn it virtually is slavery.
And his company cracks the whip.
Now imagine those with guns on them. Because that’s next.

“When you compare his wealth to what his serfs earn it virtually is slavery.”
No, it isn’t. The employees are free to walk away anytime they like and seek new employment.

Fat chance when Bezos buys up virtually everything in sight.
It’s called a monopoly. And he gets government benefits to move to a region.
What do you see happening?
We in the Seattle area know exactly what Amazon’s oppressive work conditions have on their reputation. Those who have worked there tell people, “You don’t want to work at Amazon!”
“Fat chance when Bezos buys up virtually everything in sight.”
So give up then.

If Bezos thinks these things aren’t going to be stolen, sabotaged, turned over, shot at and tagged, he’s nuts. It’s a big target to mischievous types.
Might as well get it over with and paint “Honky Lips” on them, LOL!
50% of the population will have no problems collecting universal basic income. You know, Democratic voters.
Hourly employees have a turnover rate of about 150% every year, and Amazon executive are worried that they may runout of hirable employees in the US. There is a reason why people are fleeing from these job.
I weened myself off Amazon about 3 years ago because I don’t want my money going to the biggest most vile pig in the country. I don’t know why conservatives give their money to Bezos.
Most American cities have rivers going through them—wonder where the Amazon robots will end up....
;-)
clearly you have never worked for amazon! when Trump became president and instituted his economic policies that benefited America, employees benefited too. suddenly bezos couldn’t hire slave labor anymore because there was were plenty of other places to work that offered better money and far better working conditions.

Around here, GOOD WORKERS won’t apply for jobs at Amazon. Treat people like crap and you’ll tend to attract crap workers.
These paper jockeys and computer screen fools think everything can be controlled with the right code. When machines take over all of the physical activities out of humans hands, there is no comprehension of the havoc a reading error of the code will do to a complex process. A machine operator will load in the incorrect code and bottles will break, boilers will overheat and explode, blades will break loose and fly through the entire plant, slicing through stuff in a catastrophic disaster. What they thought would save a penny in labor will cost them a pound.
Then there would be hacks by competitors that would gobble up software and spit back massive sabotage.
Please describe your treatment at Amazon.
Will someone work hard if they receive the same pay regardless of their effort level? Some will if they enjoy their work. For something like Amazon warehouse work, I’d imagine that it’s drudgery that few workers truly enjoy. As such, I suspect that Bezos’ assumption that most of his employees would be lazy given the opportunity is valid.
Really? Bezos is not the first person to solve it? Then who else in history has already solved the principal-agent problem?
Or did you mean to write, "...is not the first person to attempt to solve it?"
