A man moving from Alabama to southwest Florida traveled hundreds of miles with an owl stuck in his truck’s grille. The owl survived.
Torie Gray said he saw a vehicle ahead of him swerve on Interstate 75 to avoid the great horned owl. But somehow he hit it and it became lodged in the truck.
Gray said he wasn’t aware of the situation until he got to Naples, where he plans to live. Gray says he saw the damage to his vehicle and the owl inside, but he wasn’t sure it was still alive.
Gray called the Conservancy of Southwest Florida, which sent a volunteer to help dislodge the bird.
Eventually they did, and both men marveled that the owl was in good shape. Gray said the bird did more damage to the truck than to itself.
“Nobody knows how it is alive. He had lost a few feathers, but he was pretty alert,” said Tim Thompson, volunteer at the conservancy. “Every single person was shocked. They can’t believe it. I think it is just an amazing story.”
Well, owl be.
I’m sure some law enforcement agency or federal agency is going to find he broke some obscure law transporting an owl over state lines.
Like I said, I loved that car.
“Nope. I was at the Orlando airport yesterday and the wheelchairs were 15 deep for a flight to NY.”
They are gone. Only two people in waiting room this week at my dermatologist’s office, and one was me.
> He accidentally became a hoot ornament! <
Owl bet that will be the best pun on this thread.
Ha ha ha! You and I are birds of a feather...!
One morning I walked to the Company area from the Senior NCO Billet and the 1SG grabbed me and took me to his office and it was clear he was upset about something. He said “Your wife called last night and left a message, something about a death and she was crying so hard the Staff Duty officer couldn’t make out the whole message. We’ve alerted the MFO Commander in Norway, asking if you could make another call and we have the Red Cross standing by once the emergency is verified.” (My wife was a Sergeant at the time).
I was freaked out and spent the first half of the day waiting for authorization to call home and the other half trying to get Terri on the phone. I finally got through and she was in tears, crying about “I killed it!” I said calm down and tell me what happened. She said she got home from work the previous day and found a Blue Jay stuck to the grill of the Jeep. I consoled her but kept my end of the conversation cryptic as my 1SG, Commander, and Bn XO were there waiting to whisk me away on Emergency Leave.
When I finished the call I told them it was a distant relative that had died in a car wreck but that I didn’t need to go home because my wife had tended to the funeral arrangements.
I wonder where they will release the owl. Will they take him back where he belongs or let him go in the Naples area?
If someone was tailgating one, a squid-like ink could be put upon them. Total fun.
That was the first car I saw that had a seat adjustment levers/buttons on the door that were a seat analogue. Totally great human factors implementation.
Now THAT is FUNNY. :)!
A friend used to joke that you’ll have five o’clock shadow before you get to the end of the onramp.

Roush Stage 3 Mustang: 3.6
Does the Mustang also haul a 20’ trailer @ 70 mph with a 30 yr old Suburban over hills of US 212 from Crow Agency to Bell Fouche?
The F-150 will not do 0-60 in 6.5 pulling a 20’ trailer loaded with Suburban!
Owls never look amused...
It’ll do 70 up the grades on US 212 though.
That’s what actually counts in my real world.
LOL!
“That’s what actually counts in my real world.”
Your first point was 0-60 times.
