I’m a golf nut and I’ve never heard of Russell Henley. I predict he will disappear tomorrow. As for Phil, hopefully he at least makes the cut. They’re still out on the course as I write this so the leaderboard may change more today.

wiki:

Henley became the first PGA Tour rookie to win his debut in 12 years with a record-setting performance at the Sony Open in Hawaii in January 2013. He finished at 256 (–24), breaking the Sony Open scoring record by four shots. It was the second-lowest score for a 72-hole tournament in PGA Tour history, ...

Thanks! He’s been on Tour since 2013 with only that one win? I’ll look him up.

The Open often produces champions who come out of obscurity, win, and then promptly return to obscurity. Orville Moody won in 1969 for his one and only win as a PGA Tour professional. Jack Fleck, a driving range pro(!!), beating the immortal Ben Hogan in 1955.... Geoff Ogilvie who won at 2006 at Winged Foot when Mickelson blew up is no longer on tour and although he did have a number fo wins before that Open, I don’t think he ever won again.

A lot of golf to still be played. Rory is off to a good start. We shall see.

Speaking of Tiger, I read a report he’s in LA area this week...thought we might see him at the US Open as commentary.

Some clown wouldn’t turn off his phone even after Phil asked him 3 times then drove it OB. What kind of jerk won’t silence his phone at a golf major?

I’ve heard of him. He’s a local boy from Macon, Ga

He’s pretty good and won’t be easily dismissed. This could be his breakout moment.

I hope at least Rahm plays well after The Covid cost him 1.6 million two weeks ago. Phil may never win an open, he's had his chances (6) and at 50+ it would be a true Cinderella story but unlikely.

The way these courses are set up you have to play extremely well an have a hot, perhaps even lucky putter.

A hot and lucky putter can win you tournaments.

The official U.S. Open website is live broadcasting select groups of players.

Currently, DeChambeau, Matsuyama, and 22 year old pro T. Strafaci.

The course is tearing these guys apart - after five holes, DeChambeau is leading with +3, Strafaci is +4, Matsuyama is +5!

Well, Rahm played well and had two long putts on 17 and 18. Rory, DeChambau, Dustin, Louie, Thomas, Koepka, none of them could keep it together enough to pull it off.
