Wouldn’t the owner have insurance for this?

Yes. Five years ago I put my family home on the market when my wife and I retired to the Hill Country. We use a very reputable real estate company to prescreen and qualify our tenants. I upgraded my homeowners insurance to cover any and all damages renters may cause. Even a loss of use clause that will pay me if my home is off the market for any length of time while damages are being repaired.

Nope, insurance won’t cover intentional damage like this, they’ll just tell you to sue the tenant for the damages.
