I met Jack Masters well over 20 years ago at a talk at the National Holocaust Museum in DC. It is what he said after the official talk that made me prouder of him and his men.
They became Nazi war criminal hunters at the end of the war and didn’t take many, if any, prisoners.
No legal bullshit, no excuses for genocide, nothing. They killed genocidal murderers, giving their victims a “just” treatment for what they did to millions of Jews and millions of others, including American, British and French POWs.
My other favorite Nazi-fighters/hunters included Peter Malkin who physically seized Adolf Eichmann in Argentina (I shook his hand, a great honor), and Nazi-Hunter concentration camp survivor Simon Weisenthal (who provided me with Nazi-hunting materials which I published in the US).
Some Jews fought back with all they had against Nazi Germany and their allies. They are the modern “Maccabees”. What they did should never be forgotten!!
NB: My grandmother’s family in Lemberg was massacred in the sandpit killings that left 2,500 Jews and possibly others dead in a day or two. Any who survived were sent to Belzec Concentration Camp and/or Auschwitz extermination camp (according to a German soldier who saw them on the death trains).
The best Nazi is a dead Nazi. No excuses. The best Communist is a dead Communist. No excuses. They are the greatest genocidal killers in history and when they attack, must be killed. Screw taking prisoners except for questioning (I learned a lot from VC and NVA soldiers/defectors in both So. Vietnam and Cambodia, some of it of strategic intelligence value which I passed on to “friends” in Saigon).
Otherwise, “dead reds” sounded great to me, especially the “crispy critter” kind.

I met a Jewish man in Charlotte, NC (recently deceased) who was sent to a Nazi death camp with his family. Because he was too young to do any real work, the guards expelled him. Alone, he somehow made it out of German territory and eventually to The States.
When the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor he lied about his age and enlisted in the army. He was among the first troops to hit the beach in Normandy on D-Day and was involved in liberating one of the Concentration Camps.
No other family members survived.
Given the propensity to rewrite history we will soon be told that it was the Amazing 87 who actually won WW2 and that the millions of Americans, Brits, Russians, etc., were just their helpers.
