John Glenn was a real disappointment in my life. As corrupt as all the rest.

This is true. I know nobody is perfect (even me!), but I used to admire John Glenn so very much back in the 60’s.
In my child’s mind, John Glenn was on par with Mickey Mantle, another very famous public figure with profound weaknesses in personal life.

I was politically aware at a fairly young age, though not really politically engaged until I got out of the service.

I was dismayed when, during that political awakening, I came to realize that John Glenn was a left leaning corrupt politician who had eagerly opted in to all the things I found reprehensible about the Democrats. That was a shock to me.
