No more Arthur Treachers? What will Shirley Temple say? What will Merv Griffin say? Not much, unfortunately, as they no longer enjoy Treacher’s fish and chips. Well, maybe in heaven...

I vaguely remember hearing about Arthur Treacher’s but that was decades ago. I don’t know if they were active here in Michigan or not......

My last post made reference about hearing about them here in Michigan but I don’t remember when or even where their restaurants were....

I loved Mr. Burger when we lived in Grand Rapids in the 80’s. They still around?

There was one on Seven Mile near the John Lodge Freeway while I was growing up. Another one in Clawson on 14 Mile that still has the original building and sign but repurposed for something else.

Oh, and lots and lots of repurposed Red Barn restaurant buildings around, some still with the original roofs.

My favorite long gone restaurant chain. There are two left, but operate as independent restaurants (Clearfield and Dubois, PA). Loved their salad dressing and apple fritters.

Western PA really is blessed with an abundance of great food choices. Much of Ohio for that matter as well.

Not just hoagies, but especially hoagies. Speedway, Sheetz, Wa-Wa and even the occasional Subway, though I honestly don't know how they make it here with all that competition.

We do have more than our share of fat people, for sure!

Only place I’ve lived that had one was DC area circa 1990.

Similar in quality to LJS & Capt. D.

Which to me is poor quality.

Those weren’t in my part of the country. Similar to A&W it appears. A 60’s shot there. And Mom got us Jiffy Pop!

I have no idea, I never heard of them. They must have been a small chain....

I don’t know if it was an urban British thing but the Arthur Treachers near where I grew up did a lot of walk-up business. They really didn’t have a large inside area and had maybe a table or two outside. The two locations I recall didn’t (and couldn’t) have drive-thru service because of how the buildings were situated.

They used to be in Manchester, CT on Center Street across the street from a First National Supermarket (now a courthouse).

There was an Arthur Treacher’s Fish and Chips in Ala Moana shopping center in Honolulu in the late ‘60s.
I don’t remember any other fish and chips places in Hawaii at the time, but I have always compared any fish and chips since then to Arthur Treacher’s and they just aren’t as good.
