Take a popular protest song and make it upbeat. Put up there somebody that's as smooth and hip as they come. Just look at how he improvises and puts his own stamp on it. Removing the mike from the stand as his voice rises-3 things at once-totally undistracted. That was Obama. Both tapped into an American yearning for things upbeat as we are an upbeat people. It's just not our style. We do not pretend to be messiahs. Check it out and go to work on an answer.

The hand gestures add a lot to it. It’s like the QB leading that final drive in the 4th quarter. You know which ones ‘have it’.
Now the sad part. Obama used it to go negative and Sam Cooke died young. Same with the Kennedys and their legacy. People want a God in some form to look up to and in humans they will be disappointed while we finish 2nd. Just look at how the Brits are torn up with the royal family. Up and down. Hopefully we don’t fall off the cliff. It might be that we’re all like lemmings.
Sam Cooke, a Christian who came out of the world of gospel music has little in common with Obama.
Thanks but I’m talkin’ bout us.
Don’t forget the superb talents they have in common. There’s one more similarity for Obama. try the reverend Lee Roy.

You haven't lived until you've heard him and his group, the Soul Stirrers, sing, a capella, "Jesus Gave Me Water". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LFfEkKwJejw
I almost had my daughter agree to have “Nothing Can Change This Love” as her wedding song two years ago, but she thought it was dated. The band still played it later on.
What are you on about?
Fantastic! They don’t need musical instruments.
My question as well.
Sam Cooke’s singing is incredible. Don’t tell me he was a racist scumbag like Obama.
He seldom makes sense.
“Don’t tell me he was a racist scumbag like Obama.”
I don’t know about the racist part, but he was definitely a scumbag. Read Peter Guralnick’s Dream Boogie. A lot of time is given to the gospel years, and it’s appalling. I became convinced that, even that long ago, the whole gospel music thing was phony. Sam seemed to have no loyalty to anyone, and thought nothing of crossing some of the biggest people in the gospel world. As much controversy as there has been about the “real story behind his death,” I couldn’t help but think there could be quite a few people who might have liked to have taken a shot at him.

This is teachable moment and you folks don’t get it. Sam Cooke was a talent who had everyone in the palm of his hand. Obama has that same quality. What you folks aren’t getting is that Obama is getting the country to look past what the Al Sharpton’s stand for while we were talking taxes.
How do WE deal with it? Sarah cut him down a notch with her ‘styrofoam column’ remark. You folks need think more of the same.
Smalltown-may be true but no one cares about that stuff anymore than the birth certificate.
So I take it you see Obama as a positive influence.

I have no idea what you're talking about.
Great that you brought it back; it’s timeless!
Right, they did Pentatonix before Pentatonix were born!
Timeless stuff. I think they were from Philly where you could hear that kind of stuff on street corners (none were ever as good as Cooke’s boys were, though).
‘So I take it you see Obama as a positive influence.’
We can all learn from him. Those that didn’t learn watched as Biden won. Even a defeated Japan admired American talent and engineering.
As for Sarah’s comment someone here should post it-gotta be on youtube somewhere.
Who’s Sarah?
