LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Even though California has lifted its mask mandate for most businesses, many people are unsure what to do when it comes to ditching their face coverings.
Mindy Pfeifer was one of the only people seen walking into a Trader Joes’ in Studio City on Tuesday.
“I felt rebellious in Trader Joe’s right now without a mask,” said Mindy Pfeifer. “I feel like everyone was looking at me, and they were, and then I kept looking around…I feel like I had to justify. Even to the checker, they were like ‘You’re good, you’re good.’ I know but it feels weird.”
Other shoppers within the store said they were unsure what to do when it came to shedding their masks.
One shopper named Dennis said he was ready to take his mask off two weeks ago but still hasn’t.
“I probably would have taken it off if there was more than one person, but each time that I’ve come in here I’ve only seen one person without a maks,” he said.
Many more customers inside a Ralphs store went in bare-faced. The sign at the door read, “Masks required unless you are fully vaccinated.”
At Laque Nail Salon in North Hollywood, masks are still required for everyone
Owner Marina Fermanyan said she’s waiting for the guidance that comes out of the state’s occupational safety meeting tomorrow.
“We are choosing to keep it as it is, just the same way customers come in with masks on, the staff and employees with masks on,” Fermanyan said.
She said she’s getting mixed reactions from customers — some said they wouldn’t come in unless masks are required while others said they are ready to take their masks off.

Is it bad that I prefer the social distance here?
- a Californian
Pro tip:
If you support Bidet* or Knewsome, by all means, keep wearing it.
Makes identifying you so much easier.
Yes, ALWAYS wear masks because masks will keep you safe from germs.
>snicker<
I do crack myself up sometimes.
only if you also keep a mask on that doesn’t work and is actually harmful
Imagine if we actually had an immune system which could protect us from germs.
The inability of so many people to think for themselves is absolutely astounding. Always waiting on social cues from others to determine one’s behavior is a tragic way to go through life.
I just don’t like he traffic and the people crowding up on you, cutting in line and being rude again. 🙄
We used to stand tall... now, too many Americans cower to bureaucrats. Pathetic.
We never had a mask mandate in Alaska, so for me, it feels weird to wear one into a store. I should visit my daughter in Cali and go maskless into stores down there.
Let’s see where Vendome went today:
Gas station
Grocery Outlet
Car Wash
Target
Kohls
.99 Cent Store
Smart & Final
Walmart
Also had 5 appointments today.
Maybe 3 people day, except me, wore their “Linus” mask.
Ridiculous
How are they going to unring the fear porn they sold for the last 15 months and continue to sell with their bull shit about those not “vaccinated “, variants and so much other mindless pablum?
I'll volunteer to go maskless wherever I can (except for the businesses that still demand masks of all patrons) and start counting the number of people who demand vaccination proof from me, and will report back.
People around here quit the silly masks the second they weren’t required to wear them.

*points and laughs*
” Useful Idiots Confused”. There, I fixed the headline.
I don’t defend Californians much, but only now is there widespread non-use of masks in Texas, despite the restrictions being lifted 2 months ago.
They’ve killed enough brain cells that they can’t think straight anymore
Illinois dropped its mask mandate about a month ago. I guess about %75 of the people still wear masks while shopping in my metro area. There has been a mixed mask requirement by businesses since the end of the state mandate. Some took the signs down immediately while others left them up. Some changed the signs from required to recommended. More and more businesses have been removing the signs in the last few days..
NYS lifted everything except muzzles yesterday.
Schools, businesses, and healthcare setting still muzzle.
Really interesting thing about muzzles required in healthcare settings: what it says on the backs of the boxes of disposable muzzles we buy: NOT FOR USE IN HEALTHCARE SETTINGS.
This was NEVER about public health.
