The Number of Small Businesses Destroyed by COVID Lockdowns Will ASTOUND You
PJ Media ^ | 6/13/2021 | Victoria Taft

COVID shutdowns championed by U.S. governors and D.C. bureaucrats are responsible for destroying nearly 40% of small businesses since the virus was unleashed on the world—and we know now that it was for little to no damned good reason. A study by the Proceedings of the National Academies of Sciences revealed recently that shutdown orders made little to no difference in COVID’s impact. From the abstract of the study:

“Previous studies have claimed that shelter-in-place orders saved thousands of lives, but we reassess these analyses and show that they are not reliable. We find that shelter-in-place orders had no detectable health benefits, only modest effects on behavior, and small but adverse effects on the economy. To be clear, our study should not be interpreted as evidence that social distancing behaviors are not effective. Many people had already changed their behaviors before the introduction of shelter-in-place orders, and shelter-in-place orders appear to have been ineffective precisely because they did not meaningfully alter social distancing behavior.” [Emphasis added]

And it should have been evident for those caring to look.

While bureaucrats gave Walmart, Costco, Lowe’s, and other big-box stores “essential” status, allowing them to stay open during the COVID pandemic, 38.9% of America’s small businesses, the providers of most of the country’s jobs, were forced to close based on fear, hackneyed social-distancing rules, early ignorance about transmission, and an insatiable desire by governors to micromanage the affairs of men.

In short, small businesses could have operated the entire time, exactly like big-box stores did, had it not been for tyrants in statehouses and mayor’s offices around the country destroying lives in the name of “science.”

Drive around town. Look at the number of boarded up stores and shut down businesses. This is Communism, not America.

You need to always know that this is only in democrat states

in democrat states that only do you have oppressive communists in government trying to force your business to close and then go through a myriad of health regulations , taxes and other nonsense ; but you also have idiot politicians creating free reign to rioters and looters to come break in your store and steal anything they want anytime of the day week or month with impunity !!!

this is what you get when you put Democrats otherwise known as communists in charge of your government. congratulations 🎉!

I live in the Bay Area California one of the stupidest far left loony bin although not quite as bad as Seattle and Portland where you have nightly riots every single day

I can tell you for a fact that many business owners never want to ever even think about going back to San Francisco where you have to be followed the left of Trotsky to even think about running for office there and they could give a flying crap about businesses

You can’t even park your car there without having virtual certainty that it’s going to be broken into with no consequences

So you get what you get if you vote Democrat is Lord of the flies

NO, it is not!
I live in Indiana.
We are a Republican state with a Republican Governor.
He went along with this BS, shutting down everything.
About 30% of small businesses were shut down because of RINO Governor Holcomb.

All of these small businesses in each state should file a class action lawsuit against the tyrants that mandated the shutdowns.

"Comrades! The insurrection of five kulak [small business owners] districts should be pitilessly suppressed. The interests of the whole revolution require this because 'the last decisive battle' with the kulaks is now underway everywhere. An example must be made.”

1. Hang (absolutely hang, in full view of the people) no fewer than one hundred known kulaks, fatcats, bloodsuckers.

2. Publish their names.

3. Seize all grain from them.

4. Designate hostages - in accordance with yesterday's telegram.

I don’t think this is the case, but are you suggesting government shutdowns of small businesses, but not mega corporations, is somehow justified given the high failure rate of small businesses.

In our area there were many small businesses that had been in business for decades that had to shut down permanently—there was definitely nothing “normal” about 2020.

Agreed! That is why I asked the poster about his point of “normal” business failure…

The majority of small businesses are Republican owned. The purpose of the lockdowns is to reduce their political influence.

My comment had a link (https://www.national.biz/2019-small-business-failure-rate-startup-statistics-industry/) which shows the failure rates.

Small businesses have always had high failure rates, typically financial mis-management. The article would have been better if it had more thoroughly analyzed the various reasons. I didn’t justify the government doing anything.
