A Pekingese named Wasabi won Best in Show at the 145th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Sunday. The reserve slot, or runner-up, was given to Bourbon the whippet. The Westminster Dog Show is the second-oldest continuous sporting event in the United States, after the Kentucky Derby. It has run through world wars, previous pandemics and economic depressions. Last year, amid the pandemic, the event was moved to June.

That agility competition was amazing. All the different things those dog could do, almost all with just the hand motions of their trainer.

I watched this entire dog show and there are no words for my disappointment last night when I heard her say the BIS was the Pekingese. I, personally, thought the French Bulldog and the Samoyed were absolutely beautiful. And, I think, neither breed have ever won BIS at Westminster. It would have been different and wonderful if either of those had won; but, noooo, we get a dog that looks like it comes from another planet.

One of the judging standards for these dogs should be, “Bears at least a faint resemblance to its ancestor the wolf.”

Best comment ever!

Thanksgiving show is similar to this one but another club holds it

That show is the National Dog Show. I have been watching that dog show for years. It was really a small show at the beginning; but, it has grown and is a very big dog show.

Hubby actually sat down with me to watch the Agility and he had fun. It was a good event.

Pekes do not believe they are dogs either.

Believe it or not, from a DNA standpoint, Pekes are one of the closest breeds related to wolves.

That is a myth. We have three and they are a low maintenance unless you show them. As family pets we rarely brush them and they do not shed much. In the summer because it is so hot here, we give them a puppy cut.
