Several weeks ago I mentioned that we had baby bluebirds in our nest box, and that I hoped to get photos of them fledging. Well, I waited and waited one day last week. Got lots of shots of parents feeding and babies sticking their heads out, sometimes coming almost all the way out, but never fledging. Went to bed and got up up early the next day. The nest box was empty! However, mama and daddy started dive bombing me so I figured that there must’ve been one still nearby. I found him in the ground cover near a stone bench.
Here’s mama feeding a juicy bug to the babies.
Here’s one of the more adventurous babies.

Here’s the fledgling that I found near the bench.

Except for the beak, I would never imagine that a baby Bluebird looks like that. Thanks so much for sharing!
I’ve seen exactly ONE Bluebird this season. I know Beau cleaned out their houses, but they are located a good mile from our house, so not necessarily easy viewing, and they’ve obviously been busy with no time to loaf around in my yard. ;)
