Working on my first cup of coffee and loving the rooster pouring his - I've shared this already.
We have had an inch & a half of rain since Thursday evening - should be clearing out today. I had just done a 'heavy' watering Thursday, thinking the storms were going around - the big one (heavy downpours) 'blew up' on radar & came over around 9:30 pm, then off on all night & yesterday. Everything is growing great!
- Celebrity tomatoes - finally set fruit - they're loaded
- Cherry tomatoes - after looking half dead for a couple of weeks, they've taken off - blooming like crazy
- Cukes - another 'survival' story - blooming, baby cukes, and going up the trellis
- Jalapeno/bell peppers - doing well & blooming - baby jalapenos can be seen
Flower gardens:
- Two raised beds of zinnias - the seeds came from blooms I saved last year - planted June 1 & they are coming up nicely
- Tithonia - germinated in peat pots & transferred June 1 to a raised bed & they're starting to grow nicely
- Giant sunflowers - seeds are from a huge sunflower we had last year - started them in peat pots, in the raised bed as of June 1. I also planted two packages of sunflower seeds that are coming up nicely. I did put up a temporary fence to keep the 3 Buckaroos out.
- Teddy Bear sunflowers - peat pots planted in one of the spots where I was growing radishes - decided to keep them inside the garden fence because the 3 Buckaroos would eat them otherwise. My 4 metal raised beds I'm using for flowers are all outside the garden fence ... not sure if I'm going to have a critter problem with the flowers - this year will tell the tale.
- Cardinal Climbing vines - in a tub, 2 pots & the middle of the stock tank (where I have rosemary & thyme). They are all to the tops of their trellises - hope they'll bloom soon.
- Marigolds - started some in peat pots - French, mixed, giant - all are out in the beds & starting to grow more quickly.
- Morning glories - I have never grown these before but wanted something that climbs for one of the raised beds - soaked the seeds & planted yesterday - they have a tomato cage they can grow on if the seeds come up.
Snake report - none in the hen house since we removed the last two on back-to-back days; however, my mom spotted one Thursday in the shed where I keep my Gorilla cart, tractor mower & she keeps her gardening tools - she was pretty traumatized. I'm sure it was looking for mice.
Chickens are laying beautifully - I made two quiches last week - really good & a great way to use up an abundance of eggs.

I have Chicken Fever so bad, I can’t hardly stand it! I thought I would be totally ‘over’ raising laying hens, after doing it on a huge scale for so many years, but I really miss having those chattering biddies around, not to mention the eggs, which are so awesome when compared to store-bought!
My ex came from a family of 14 and when he was a kid he was in charge of their hen house that held 200 hens at a time. He wasn’t too keen on my chicken enterprises which he refused to help with.
(Yet another reason he’s my ex.) *SNORT*
