I have amassed thousands of dollars of software since the 90s, very little of which works with 8 or 10.
The “program compatibility feature” is a cruel joke.
Even my printers and other hardware choke on this damnable OS.
To say I hate it is the understatement of the century.
it’s a stupid “tablet” OS which is nearly useless on a laptop.
It's even more useless on a desktop with a 24" monitor -- the Metro click buttons are huge ugly monstrosities which are only suited for tiny touch-screens, not a KVM.
I managed to sledgehammer my own Win10 environments back into a quasi-Win7 mode (and Classic Shell is my sanity). But as an IT person, I regularly have to work on Win10 and Server 2019 systems that have the original UI config, and I am reminded how awful the default is.
I can't stand it. It's the reason all my personal machines are MacOS and Linux, and I only use Win7 and Win10 VMs for those Windows-only programs.
The worst part is knowing that it's completely unnecessary. Microsoft could very easily give us the options of a Win7-like UI on top of the current NT kernel. But being obstinate a$$holes, they refuse to do so.
If not for Classic Shell I’d take a dead blow hammer to this Alienware in a heartbeat.
Stupid effing “tiles”.
I stopped playing with brightly colored blocks when I was about 3 years old. I refuse to go back to that now.
I keep an XP box around by necessity, it’s shocking how nice it really is compared with later windoze versions.
Re-launch XP, call it 11, and make peoople happy.
Get a Mac.
Just when you’ve finally figured out where and how everything works they change it..........................
“How much does it cost? As it’s from 10 to 11, it may be a small fee this time.”
We all know the answer....
I retired my winxp box recently and i finally got my new/old home 2016 win10 box up and running now this.
I cant run to linux fast enough this summer ..
Yes. Pay twice the amount for similar hardware and an OS geared for Soyboy pride-flag designers.
Linux isn’t that hard to learn and works just fine.

If the old box still works put Linux on it... They have 32 bit Linux distros if it is a 32 bit box. Mint Cinnamon 18.3 has a 32 bit version with all the recent features.
And when you get there you can have your XP feel back with a modern Linux engine under the hood. :)

My Mac was bought in 2010.
Upgrades arrive automatically.
Same machine still cooks 10 years later.
Sure... If all you do is post here. I have a 2011 Macbook Pro that is essentially a paperweight for anything other than posting on the internet.
And that is AFTER I upgraded memory and RAM. Which... you can’t DO on newer Macs... Which is not a good selling point BTW...
I buy and sell heavy petroleum products and derivatives, tied to daily WTI with this Mac.
I also take photos and write articles and interviews for our local paper.
My Mac supports it all...
... and I’m 27-year IT professional working for a multinational tech company with a laundry list of certifications including Mac...
But what the hell do I know...
thanks for the advice.. i have too much invested in the new box not to use it, its my first real dell/win box i ever bought after all these years.
i use a win10 for work with no problems and like it enough (99%) now.
I have the idea this is a desktop then? I understand the trouble of setup etc. if so. :)
I passionately hate Microsoft.
I get Outlook emails a day late.
I get pop up ads even when I am playing solitaire all the time trying to get me to play other games.
I get a big black box of words...don’t know what it says...on the right of my screen periodically. Comes then goes
And I think they are just as intrusive as Facebook, which I have NEVER joined
Thinking of getting Apple.
