This is the fault of the Deep State. Why The USS Liberty was conducting Electronic Warfare interception for the Egyptians against the Israelis can only be attributed to Deep State animus against the nascent Jewish State. They were warned yet kept intercepting and transmitting information to the Egyptians. What would the US do? The same damn thing.

I think you are correct.
That is the prevailing rumor in Israel.
I didn’t believe it until I watched the State Department under Trump so actively oppose him in an attempt to destroy Israel. It was eye opening how much the elites hate us.
Anyway, people forget Johnson was a committed Zionist, whatever his other flaws.
