Fired sheriff’s deputy Zachary Wester was convicted in three of 12 cases for planting drugs in people’s vehicles during traffic stops. His typical M.O. was to say he smelled marijuana as a pretext for a search, and then pretend to find drugs such as meth or marijuana, prosecutors said.
The state presented a dozen people as victims. One of them, Benjamin Bowling, lost custody of his daughter because the defendant arrested him, authorities said. Body cam footage in one instance showed Wester palming an item–meth–while beginning to search the vehicle of another victim Teresa Odom, authorities said.
Wester was only convicted on three of the cases: Odom’s, that of Steven Vann, and that of Joshua Emmanuel. Guilty counts covered charges of racketeering, official misconduct, perjury, fabricating evidence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and false imprisonment.
The defendant was a deputy with the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in the Florida panhandle.

Only 3 cases.
THAT WE KNOW OF!
That’s 3 too many.
Send him to prison and tell Bubba why before he gets there...
“only” 3 cases? I’ve had drugs planted on me by a cop. Admittedly, they were my roommates and the cops just spread it around amongst whoever was there so as to get everybody on felony arrests. Had to get an attorney to pay them off (that was how things were done in Chicago back in the day). But it wasn’t mine, and they did do it.
Yeah, I was young and dumb ;-0
One reason the O.J. jury acquitted him is because it was fairly common knowledge in the ‘hoods’ that the L.A. cops planted evidence to enhance charges. This came out a couple of years later. L.A. had to release dozens of criminals and pay out millions (of taxpayer) dollars in compensation. This cast, at least in the jurors’ minds reasonable doubt about the gloves found. Not saying there weren’t other reasons as well, but the L.A.P.D. poisoned lots of cases by doing things like this.
we have seen similar cases where police or govt agents planted incriminating “evidence” on innocent people.
sometimes at the start of a “search”
once we know about...they broke into the victim’s residence (when she was away) the day before to plant the “evidence”
...had it not been for a neighbor spotting their entry and alerting the victim ...they would have gotten away with it, too
it only takes 5 or 10 percent rotten apples to spoil the entire bushel. works same for police
I love your tagline!!!
