On my first of many mother’s days, as a mother of four, I asked my father whether he was going to wish me a happy mother’s day.
He said, Why, you’re not my mother.
Sometimes, it falls to me to stay after hours when a client comes late to pick up. I like it because the late fee is one dollar per minute, paid in cash to the worker. Got $45 the other day. They either will apologize and excuse, or will thank me profusely. I always say, “The dollar a minute is thanks (or apology) enough!”
