A sinkhole measuring about 300 feet in diameter opened in the state of Puebla on Saturday, in Santa Maria Zacatepec, according to local reports.
... They estimated the hole, now filled with groundwater, to be about 60 feet deep.
Homeowners Magdalena and Heriberto Sánchez reported hearing a thunderous sound before finding the gigantic pit.
“A long time ago there was a jagüey there, but we don’t know why they covered it, but we think that the water struggled to regain its space and that is why it appeared,”

Yeah, that was a crazy thing... people were hiring cranes to rescue their exotic cars from a nearby repair shop, too, IIRC.
one of the kardashians moved to messico?...
What a terrible thing to have most of your money destroyed in a fire. Was he at least able to save the house? You said it was ancient.
When my 2nd oldest sister died, she had a Will, but had no property, stocks, bonds, nothing. She put me on her savings and checking account as a co-owner when she was diagnosed with cancer, and gave me Power of Attorney since I was the last one in the family left. I discovered that her Will, the original was still in her possession. She had signed it, but never sent it back to the attorney who had prepared it. I called his office, and he told me he could process her Will, but since she owned nothing, it wasn't really necessary. He told me to file letters of Administration with the Surrogate court where she died, in order to get permission from the court to submit her tax returns for the year she died (2011). He also told me to pay for her funeral expenses out of my own account, so that there would be a record of how much I had spent related to her passing. She'd already reserved a spot for her ashes at a cemetery, but I paid for her cremation, and whatever other costs there were. Once I received the approved letters of administration from the court, I filed them with her tax returns. After I received the tax refunds, I had to file a paper with the court to document what the refunds had been used for with receipts. All I had to do was submit the receipts for her cremation, last medical bills, etc. which were more than what the actual Federal and State refunds were.

It was a very old farmhouse, so they built a new house on the same farm.
It was not their total savings it was their cash nest egg.
Very interesting
thanks for posting the link
I'm glad they were able to rebuild. I love old houses. The older the better. By the way, because your screen name is DUMBGRUNT, does that mean you were in the U.S. Army Infantry? My brother was a grunt. He was in the 25th Infantry Division. Actually served as point man from time-to-time, and carried the grenade/mortar launcher in Vietnam '66-'67. I'm sure he did other things, but would never talk about it. My mother assumed he'd come home in a box. Thankfully he didn't, but he did break his toe while he was stationed at Fort Carson. Got pissed and kicked his foot locker. Died of a massive heart attack at 51 back in 1990. Thank God my parents were both gone by then. It would have killed my mother. He was the only son.
