I got my dad a 2nd gen Echo a few years back and have been trying to opt out on the app but don’t have the option to do so.
I’m seeing various reports that the 2nd gens are included but some say they aren’t while others are saying they had the option to opt out but it disappeared.
These people are deranged. And dangerous.
Just toss it into the fire pit.
Try the phone app.
This link tells you about it and at the bottom of the page how to disable. I think amazon would be in some deep 💩 if they sold devices that forced people to share internet without telling you. For one, it violates the contract agreement, and perhaps could be considered theft and fraud, a major class action suit with no luck of amazon winning.
If you read about sidewalk, the people who designed it and have made claims about it’s purported purpose are obviously city people. For example, if your power goes out, you could still have services from neighboring wi-fi. If my electricity is out, then the whole damn town is out, and there is no internet.

Count me in. I can’t see any possible downside.
(/do I really need to say it?)
The cable companies have been doing this for years with their hotspots. Your home router is doing double duty as a hotspot.
I was given an Echo for Christmas. 2 years ago. It is still sitting in the box unopened.
I’m just glad I don’t have any.
My paranoid dad offered to buy my daughter an Alexa, I said “No way Dad, that’s spyware being allowed in the home.”
He thought me crazy until the TV Media actually backed me.
What could possibly go wrong?
Wait. What?
None of that crap’s ever been in my condo. Everyone else around the 40 unit complex seems to have it.

Chevy and Ford are going to loan out your cars when they’re not in use.
Elon just wants to watch you.
Amazon announced this a few months ago and I made sure the GF and I were both opted out then. Looks like I’m going to have to check and make sure that’s still true.
I have Blink and Ring. Called Blink to opt out and they did not know what I was discussing. Called Amazon and spoke with someone in the sidewalk group. He said Alexa or Echo are needed for the Blink or Ring to use Sidewalk. I also told him this was handled badly and to enroll users by not opting out with in ten days was an issue. I plan to call Ring to discuss. If I find out differs then above I will let you know.
Does this mean my neighbor can set up and mooch off my wireless and not need to pay for his own?

I know a person at work that has 8 siri devices in her home... 8!
Her friend who lives in NJ and her (lives in Calif) were talking and after the call the friend could still hear her thru Siri that she had. She called up her friend on the phone and told her.
Your smart tv is listening if you have a internet cable plugged in and seeing you if it has a camera. So is your cell phone.....
I remember in 1988 I had arrived in Calif and was using a motel 6 payphone outside the office and feeding it quarters. I told the person I was talking to that I only had this amount left in quarters. A voice spoke up who was not suppose to be part of the conversation and said to deposit that amount and it would pay for so many minutes....
