Kubuntu is what I use for an OS and it comes with KDE apps and the KDE Plasma desktop. Absolutely love it. Fast and has lots of bells and whistles. 15 second startup time, even though a dual boot system with Win7 as the other and 5 second shut down time.

BFL. I have an old C2D laptop I need to load this on. I think it has a chance of being a good web surfing machine with a SSD.

https://www.linuxlinks.com/best-free-open-source-office-suites/ "LibreOffice "

Linux Desktop would really need this (or Apache at least, not AbiWord) if it did not exist.

I am able to use GIMP to edit and create 2D images and KdenLive to edit videos. Was able to do only the simplest projects with Blender 3D, though I can see it’s capable of great things.

I have an 8x core running 2.70GHz and Kubuntu will take anything I can throw at it. I closed three browsers(I like tabs, lots of them) and 5-6 other programs last night and then shut down. Still less than 5 second shut down time. Plasma had mobile in mind when it was developed. There’s a version for cell phones.

If something that runs Plasma doesn’t work, Xubuntu and Lubuntu are good. I’ve tried all the other lightweight versions of Linux and didn’t care for them.

"Kubuntu is what I use for an OS and it comes with KDE apps and the KDE Plasma desktop."

And with Linux a person gets a spreadsheet that actually looks/acts like a spreadsheet!

Have you upgraded to the newest version of Gimp yet? They added some better features. :)

I think everything 2.10 and above is the newer version. :)
