Techno-Colored Dashboards One thing drivers remember about the ’80s it was the dashboards. The digital dashboards of this era were meant to represent the future. Unfortunately, all that happened was expensive dashboard replacements. The Camaro Berlinetta was one such vehicle that tried to take advantage of the digital design. Consumers didn’t adapt to this at all and by the turn of the ’90s, dashboards were analog again.
The Cadillac brand was another home to way too many digital dashboards. There are some benefits to a digital dashboard but they weren’t major. Most consumers just preferred the regular style of analog gauges as opposed to the digital dash. Still, the digital dash is a pretty notable part of ’80s automotive culture.

Ford Fairlane....what a trash heap...at least the one I unfortunately owned...no power, not great mileage...it wasn’t the worse car I’ve ever owned...my plymouth voygager and its 3 transmissions was my most hated, after all was said and done....sold it to a church fellow and the transmission went out on him within 2 weeks....4 tranmissions!

I beg to differ with a few of these. LOVED bench seating. But then I’m a family-type man.

Yep. The 1980s had crap music, crap cars, and crap clothing.
I have always thought that bench seats in a pickup truck gave a more comfortable ride than these trendy bucket seats that we have to use today that offer no protection. I hit a pothole just right and I have to go to the chiropractor. I don’t remember anything like that when I was a kid.
There were no Fairlanes in the 80’s. Perhaps you meant Fairmont?
I remember Chrysler product rolled and pleated vinyl seats that you could slightly inflate with the touch of a button. At least you were comfortable while waiting for the tow truck when it broke down which was a frequent occurrence. lol
I gotta admit, Landau/Vinyl Roofs were a goofy and useless styling feature, and as mentioned in the article, they often faded and peeled.
A similar, but earlier, horrible example of exterior styling were those station wagons sporting fake vinyl “wood trim” on the exterior.
The USAF tried this on C-140s years ago. The bar graph gauges sucked the big one. Thankfully, I only flew fighter/trainer types, so I didn’t have to experience the suck. Now, in my truck, the digital displays show pseudo-gauges, as God intended. ;-)
