Sorry that bothers you. Maybe you’ve had a nicer life. I grew up in the parts of town cops don’t care about, and we weren’t that into them either. So we just handled stuff.
The white neighbor, who just moved in to the hood, must be like WTF did I get into.
I owned property in hoods like this. There are always some who think their house is the whole block. Probably dressed in what some folks would call pajamas.
Land lines served a purpose.
I’ve seen it both ways - drug dealer across the ally from me wasn’t open to discussion. Tried. Had to call the police. It continued until a teenage girl was killed, then the police really stepped in.
it was filled with a high percent of alcoholics and addicts, who resolved problems with physical force and threats. Older residents could not handle things and had to call the police, especially as the behavior was continuous.
Later, in a more upscale neighborhood where if someone offended a neighbor, the just didn’t speak. Here, we let loud, late night parties continue until 12am or so. If it’s some neighbor we know, we call them directly. If it’s farther down the street and we don’t know, we’d call our local police.
