When Neera Tanden assumed a role as senior adviser at the White House last week, after her bid for a Cabinet post went off the rails, it was viewed as a consolation prize.
In reality, Tanden may have just stepped into a more quietly powerful position: entering President Joe Biden’s inner sanctum and avoiding the scrutiny from her detractors that would have come with a more public-facing role.
As senior adviser, Tanden is now among a small, select circle of advisers in the White House. She’s included in daily briefings. She’s one of a half dozen senior advisers and one of two senior advisers of color. And her close relationship to chief of staff Ron Klain means she’ll have his ear.
That proximity to power is a trade-off from the undoubted influence she would have wielded as Biden’s budget director at the Office of Management and Budget, where she would have had large sway over budget and regulatory policy. But it also means she’s free of the headaches that can come with the responsibilities of acting as a Cabinet secretary, like grillings from oversight committees or sparring with Senate members with whom she had previously clashed.
“While I believe she was singularly well-qualified to run OMB, her role as senior adviser to the president will give her the platform and opportunity to render tremendous service to the public,” said John Podesta, a longtime Tanden ally who founded the Center for American Progress, the think tank Tanden ran before leaving for the White House.
On the more immediate front, the White House is turning to Tanden - who served as a health care adviser in the Obama administration - to help handle potential fallout from an impending Supreme Court decision on the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Biden’s new executive order puts this protection on hold for the next 90 days.
“Executive Order 13920 of May 1, 2020 (Securing the United States Bulk-Power System), is hereby suspended for 90 days, the order reads.
“The Secretary of Energy and the Director of OMB shall jointly consider whether to recommend that a replacement order be issued,” it continues.
As Biden’s order states, the director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Neera Tanden, will be in charge of replacing Trump’s order after the 90 day period.
Tanden is the president and CEO of left-wing think tank the Center for American Progress (CAP), which was closely entangled with the Obama administration, according to the Washington Post. Since 2009, CAP has reportedly sent delegations to China as part of a USEF program, the National Pulse reports.
Biden’s son Hunter also has alleged corrupt foreign business ties to China, which prompted an FBI investigation in 2018 into his foreign dealings and taxes.

Another radical left-wing dot Indian. Why am I not surprised?
Except the article you just cited notes Biden was forced to withdraw Tendon's OMB, and the article itself is a joke, with the main quote supporting the idea that Kneela has anything more than a West Wing cubbyhole, coming from Podesta who was her former boss. Furthermore, Kneela had to procure the job from Bobo, Dr. Xiden didn't want her or any Cankle flunkies anywhere near the Resident.
T-minus 17 and counting. This is all for naught!
