NOTE: This is a fifteen year old article, but the songs are timeless
On first glance, rock ’n’ roll music isn’t very conservative. It doesn’t fare much better on second or third glance (or listen), either. Neil Young has a new song called “Let’s Impeach the President.” Last year, the Rolling Stones made news with “Sweet Neo Con,” another anti-Bush ditty. For conservatives who enjoy rock, it isn’t hard to agree with the opinion Johnny Cash expressed in “The One on the Right Is on the Left”: “Don’t go mixin’ politics with the folk songs of our land / Just work on harmony and diction / Play your banjo well / And if you have political convictions, keep them to yourself.” In other words: Shut up and sing.
For some reason Neil Young just does not resonate with me.
His old man song was ok.
Lots of huh.
Never heard of #1. Am listening to it now and still don’t recall it. Yes, I grew up in the great age of Rock.
"Stairway To Heaven" There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold And she's buying a stairway to heaven. When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for. Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven.
There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure 'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings. In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings, Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it makes me wonder.
There's a feeling I get when I look to the west, And my spirit is crying for leaving. In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees, And the voices of those who stand looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder, Ooh, it really makes me wonder.
And it's whispered that soon, if we all call the tune, Then the piper will lead us to reason. And a new day will dawn for those who stand long, And the forests will echo with laughter.
If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now, It's just a spring clean for the May queen. Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There's still time to change the road you're on. And it makes me wonder.
Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know, The piper's calling you to join him, Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind?
And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul. There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold. And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last. When all are one and one is all To be a rock and not to roll.
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
Wall (Berlin wall), West, as in someone pining to get beyond tha iron curtain.

War is just another game
Tailor made for the insane
But make a threat of their annihilation
And nobody wants to play
If that’s the only thing that keeps the peace
Then thank God for the bomb....
When war is obsolete
I’ll thank God for war’s defeat
But any talk about hell freezing over
Is all said with tongue in cheek
Until the day the war drums beat no more
I’ll thank God for the bomb...

You just cannot pick 50. This thread will get large.
Rock and Roll is more than noise pollution, it is life.
“Everybody’s talking at me
I don’t hear a word they’re saying
Only the echoes of my mind
People stopping, staring
I can’t see their faces
Only the shadows of their eyes
I’m going where the sun keeps shining
Through the pouring rain
Going where the weather suits my clothes
Banking off of the northeast winds
Sailing on a summer breeze
And skipping over the ocean like a stone
I’m going where the sun keeps shining
Through the pouring rain
Going where the weather suits my clothes
Banking off of the northeast winds
Sailing on a summer breeze
And skipping over the ocean like a stone
Everybody’s talking at me
Can’t hear a word they’re saying
Only the echoes of my mind
I won’t let you leave my love behind
No, I won’t let you leave
I won’t let you leave my love behind”

“I Fought the Law” was written and recorded by the crickets and bobby fuller was murdered. fingers point to the crooked LAPD and music mobster morris levy.

I have also come up with some interpretations that are probably unique. It seems to me that "Eleanor Rigby" by the Beatles (1966) is about an agent of the the House Committee on Un-American Activities who is investigating a fake church used as a dead-drop for Soviet spies but is liquidated by a GRU assassin. The fake priest returns to the Soviet Union only to be liquidated in a purge ("no one was saved.")
I also believe "The End" by the Doors (1967) is about the coup d'etat that overthrew government of South Vietnam in 1963--the killer is the coup leader Duong Van Minh, the father is President Ngo Dinh Diem, the sister is his sister Tran Le Xuan, etc.
No Doors?
No Santana?
No Pink Floyd?
No Queen, Bread or Chicago?
That’s hardly the best Eagle’s song.
We’re not gonna take it

I believe Bobby Fuller committed suicide as much as I believe that Joe Biden won the 2020 election.

Biafra spent the weekend dissing his former bandmates for showing their (now-removed) Twitter support of Romney and McMullin. “Thank you @SenatorRomney and @EvanMcMullin. Mitt cares about the USA,” the official DK account tweeted, to the heated chagrin of their ex-frontman.
VARIETY: Before getting to your recent Instagram posts, the Twitter feed of your former band, Dead Kennedys — which you criticized for its support of Mitt Romney and Evan McMullin — threw its social media manager under the bus for that debacle.
BIAFRA: Sorry, I was just distracted by the online Trump 2020 store. What a carny. He’s already selling stuff for 2024. Doesn’t matter if he ever runs. He’s just going to make money of those people, now. All right… [Quoting his tweet.] ‘”How dumb and clueless can you get?? Was it scab singer Skip, who recently denied DKs are a political band, just, ‘a social satire band?’” Look. Forget about throwing anyone under the bus. Forget who at Dead Kennedys praised Romney or McMullin. How about they apologize to DK supporters over the years who the band’s music and vision means so much to? Instead of taking any responsibility, they’re passing the buck. Isn’t that what Trump does?
For the record one of the original dead kennedys was in a band in high school with Billy Squire.

Tax the rich, feed the poor............tell me where there’s sanity.
“Electric eye“ by Judas Priest.
“Life in wartime” by Talking Heads.
Both are heavy anti surveillance.
And John “Johnny Rotten” Lydon was flamed last year for big support for Donald Trump and preaching against the lockdowns.
They tried calling him a “racist” which Johnny has never espoused racism and has been against such movements as well as being against totalitarianism whether it is from the “right”, Left, or religious.
Greg Allman was a good artist.
He also was proud to get Jimmy Carter elected. I wish I didn’t know that.
“Whipping Post” is a great tune.
