Fascinating post General... and it provides somme history/context.

But I still think it’s wrong.

Biden also wants to give 75 million to the Palestinians.

So their funding both sides.

Does not make sense !

Conservatives usually try to assure that our military (and those of our allies) is strong, in order to deter, prevent wars (or terrorist attacks like from Gaza, PLO-Abbas, 911, and other Muslim murder gangs).

Leftists usually try to weaken our defenses (and use the money for domestic communism and additional restrictions, limitations on our individual liberties at home). Most wars break out under (or are created by) Democratic regimes, due in major part to their patent weakness — or simply because they deliberately build wars (Viet Nam comes to mind).

Of course those are generalizations and there are exceptions but anyway since 1900 or so I believe they are reasonably accurate summaries of what’s happened.

Israel needs to be visibly and actually very strong to deter any more serious attacks against her. I am all for military cooperation and aid for Jerusalem. But I would add that money could also be used to great benefit by moving the Fakestinian Arabs back to Arab countries instead of allowing or facilitating or enabling their continued Occupation of Israeli territories and adjacent attack staging areas. This would clearly prevent almost all Arab terrorist attacks on Israel (whether by PLO/Abbas, Hamas, Hezballah or any other evil Fakestinian murder gangs).

(Two additional benefits will be to deal with the ringleaders who make these attacks (Egypt and Arabia know how to deal with their own much much better than Israel does!), and to return those peaceable people (essentially captives now) to their own Muslim societies where they can be free of the PLO, Hamas type gangs and their threats — and where they can make proper lives for themselves.)

Trump STOPPED funding the Palestinians. And a reminder...95% of the Palestinians are Muslims. Wake up!!

Thoughtful and deep post.. I’m not sure about your conclusions.

My instinct is to let them fight it out. I think Israel can deal with their enemies and should be allowed to without interference.

The problem you illustrate:

Right want strong defense and left weak defense for more social spending.

This is a problem because -as Rand points out - they (politicians) compromise UPWARDS and spend money on BOTH..

Money they don’t have I might add and which is borrowed.

But I still think it’s wrong.

Do you also argue it was wrong for us to support Great Britain and Soviet Union prior to our entry in WWII?

I agree with you. Israel does not need our help, and they don’t have clean hands when it comes to spying on America. They can fund their own wars.

They’re more than capable and should welcome it (i.e NO interference etc.)

“I am anti-foreign aid or military assistance or whatever its called... to ALL countries.”

The rationale behind foreign military aid is that our big adversaries will otherwise take over our smaller friends and America will be left in a weaker position in the world.

There are also the hidden reasons that are making some people rich.

These guys like giving Israel money because that money gets spent in Red districts and states.

As an owner of Raytheon stock, I enjoy the price action. As an American, I wish we could wean ourselves of the MIC.

Preferrably “NO interference” meas we will stop holding them abck from doing what needs to be done. We (and the West!) have prevented events from going to their logical conclusion from 1956, to 1967, to the Yom Kipper War and we continue !

Wouldn’t it be nice if once in a while a politician would throw his hands in the air and say:

“Lets do NOTHING!”

They can’t help themselves. Only a handful will vote against this and for differing reasons.

No one - on here (except a few) or elsewhere - will care too much.

More borrowing, spending, picking a side & meddling, etc.

it’s not a great policy (in my opinion).

I agree with you.

Which is why I find it baffling they accept it AND the strings that comes with the aid. There are always strings.

Hard to say considering no one is afraid of McConnell.
Most people don’t know that Nixon saved Israel after the ‘73 war by issuing the equivalent of the “Berlin Airlift” to re-supply their military.

Israel used nearly everything they had to fight back Syria and Egypt.

I think he is questioning giving taxpayer money to foreign nations except in a hardship case. His question would apply to any country not just Israel.

There will never be a reason for Israel to negotiate a peace deal if the US keeps replenishing its war supplies.

Iran/Hezbolllah will never stop replenishing Gaza’s war supplies as long as the US keeps replenishing Israel’s.

I think the time has come for the US to close our wallet and get out of the Middle East. We do no lasting good and please no one.

And this is not our fight.

If this thought upsets anyone ... think of it as tough love.

Good post and you say it better than me.

But there is a consensus on this....

I wish things were different. It frustrates me!

Is supporting Israel a command of the new and everlasting covenant or Scofield's bible notes?

IMO, we won’t be able to help anyone if we maintain our current spending trajectory.

They need us as a military supplier that’s why they accept.
