You people (organized religion) don't even know your own rules.

How do you know he hasn't already been to confession and forgiven for all of his sins?

Isn't that one of the phony benefits of belonging to the church?

Jesus sets the rules, we don’t. He alone knows our hearts and He loves the repentant sinner, even the rapist and murderer. If he made a good and full confession then he is in the grace of God. I don’t know the state of Lavigne’s soul at death any better than you do but whether he is forgiven or condemned he has now faced God’s judgement.

None of us should wish Hell on anyone, no matter how evil their actions. We need to see to our own sinfulness and deal with that.

Ultimate salvation and giving an account of yourself before God are two separate things. The former doesn't erase the latter. Start with Romans 14:12, 2 Corinthians 5:10, 1 Peter 4:5, and Matthew 16:27.
