When a leftist saw his gun joke, the man was arrested for making terrorist threats, a major felony, and has been in prison or under house arrest for 21 months.
Twenty-one-year-old Lucas Gerhard was arrested almost two years ago in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, for sending an obvious joke to friends via a private Snapchat. Since then, he spent 83 days in jail, before being transferred to house arrest, where he is unable to go to school, leave the house, or use the internet. And this is all because he made a private joke about his legal AR-15. This is a heinous assault on both his First and Second Amendment rights. Moreover, it takes place against a backdrop of leftist prosecutors and governors across America bending over backward to release violent criminals.
Lucas Gerhard, a former Eagle Scout, attended Lake Superior State University (“LSSU”) in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, where he was working towards a degree in criminal justice with the goal of a career in law enforcement. LSSU is a fairly small school, just south of the Canadian border, with only 2,000-2,500 students, many of whom are Canadian.
LSSU is something of an “aggie” college, with a large and respected criminal justice program. Still, as is the case for 99% of American colleges, it manages to have a “social justice and community activism” page as part of its campus life – although the link to that page is dead. One of LSSU’s leftist students, a young woman, frequently argued with Lucas, so much so that he blocked her on social media.
In the summer of 2019, Lucas bought himself an AR-15, which he brought to campus with him. At the time, he promptly followed school rules, checking his gun and ammunition in with the LSSU safety office.

It isn't theoretical.
In the early sixties in Kansas the ROTC things sometimes mandated a kid would take his rifle on the school bus so that he could practice drill.
I think that there may have been others looking at it and the lib came up and took the photo. The others probably did not know this was going to be a big deal. There was another story on FR yesterday that I can’t find now.
Imagine doing that today and having to face the local SWAT team.
This is true, but here in michiganstan, we do have the power to recall politicians.
If the community is truly pissed off, they can fire the prosecutor. Sometimes just the mention of this in the editorial column of the local newspaper will do the job.
This is up to the community.
Sorry Luke, but you are a dumbass. 3 things you should have been taught::
1. Never ever brag about the weapons you have to anyone.
2. Never show them unless you are intending to use them.
3. The Internet can’t take a joke and is purposely designed to destroy you when you make one, so shut the hell up
Back in the late 50’s we lived on Long Island, NY.
My older Brother would take his .22 Rifle to High School two times a week because he was in the Gun Club. He walked to School carrying the Rifle over his Shoulder.
It wasn’t even in a Case or a Sleeve. Nobody gave him a second look.
The lady with whom he had a disagreement ratted him out:
“Two leftist students saw that image on a friend’s phone and took a picture of it. The young woman who fought with Lucas then used the Snapchat image to file a report with the police, claiming that Lucas was making threats.”
Went to a small rural school and almost every truck had a gun rack and we were even allowed to bring them into the school and keep them in our unlocked locker. That was in case we went with someone else hunting after school, we didn’t have to walk all the way back to our vehicle. They admin knew where most of the people were on the first day of deer, pheasant, turkey, goose, duck or any other season for that matter. Can’t remember any shooting in any school.
Ironically, wasn’t the prosecutor in that case a Republican?
