SHARON, Mass. (AP) — For a year, Michelle Pepe awoke every day, recited the Kaddish, the mourner’s prayer, and kissed a photo of her father. And coped with her guilt.
“’Dad,” she says, “I’m so sorry that this happened.”
“This” was COVID-19. In March 2020, just as the pandemic bloomed in the United States, Pepe traveled from Boston to Florida for her mother’s 80th birthday. She believes she gave the coronavirus to her father; Bernie Rubin died weeks later.
“At the beginning, people would say, ‘Well, how did he get it?’ From me. That’s how he got it — he got it from me,” Pepe says, sobbing.
“Nobody’s ever said, ‘This is your fault and you gave it to him,’ but I know it’s true. I know I couldn’t save him. It’s just something I’m going to have to go to the grave with.”
Hers is a common sorrow of the times. Around the world, countless people are struggling to shake off the burden of feeling responsible for the death of a loved one due to COVID-19. They regret a trip or feel anguish over everyday decisions that may have spread the disease — commuting to work, hugging parents, even picking up food.

Everyone who dies of flu or pneumonia caught it from somebody. If it happens at 80, it doesn’t quite qualify as a tragedy. There are people who want masks and distancing forever to stop flus, etc. That approach does not lead to a healthy civilization.

Evil people support each other. That is their chief strength. - Solzhenitsyn
Interesting quote.
I read his books.
Isn’t it funny how all the Dems have no Cheney or Romney’s?
You are right, the Commie Dems all act in concert, like a symphony, never missing a note.
100% false and fabricated story.
You could walk outside and the very first random person you talk to has a dozen stories as sad as this one. I have a few of my own. I have regrets and guilt and all that but god damn it I am not going to wallow. If you want to tell a sob story go right ahead. But if you are going to wallow I am going to walk.
So much propaganda.
And there’s that word “deadly” like the “deadly” insurrection..
The sad thing is this will appear in thousands of newspapers all over the world tomorrow who get their stories from AP.
It is pure propaganda and very clever and emotional too.
No people in history has ever felt guilt for passing on a virus.
No culture has told their people to see others as death-breathers.
I wish all Bostonians would stay away from Florida and it’s got nothing to do with Covid
I know that I would feel guilt if I knowingly passed along HIV or something like that.
I wonder how many more people have felt guilt this past year for not visiting their parents before they died?
Look her up.
Far too many underestimate the propaganda of the AssPress. Since about 2012 or so they’ve marched steadily to the left, so much so that they are stacked with numerous former Slate and Buzzfeed propagandists.
The AssPress has exceeded CNN in propaganda in many instances and unlike CNN they still have “credibility” with many people, which makes them infinitely more dangerous.
I read on the internet, that there is an organization that manufactures this propaganda and publishes as a source for news outlets, owned and operated by Laureen Jobs, Steve’s widow. She does enormous damage.
....now let me call the media.
