A Belarusian currency speculator named Pavel Boguslavovich Belogour is buying up huge swaths of tiny Vermont—thousands of acres of the Green Mountain State, and even patches of land over the border in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.
He bought a maple sugar farm, an entire marina, and a plot of undeveloped wood, where he planned to build, among other things, a Viking-themed “luxury hideaway,” which he describes as “the Disney of the North.”
“Clearly he likes the water, so he bought a marina. And clearly he likes beer, so he bought a brewery. It’s kind of like, well, if I had that kind of money, maybe I’d be doing the same thing.”
Alden Capital, the hedge fund dubbed “one of the most ruthless of the corporate strip-miners seemingly intent on destroying local journalism,” which had gradually trimmed their budgets, in one case, leaving just a single reporter to cover an entire county.
Many Vermonters are less concerned with how Belogour made his money than excited by what he has done with it since. Belogour’s supporters applaud his efforts to refurbish historical buildings and conserve woodland that might be otherwise plundered by industry.
Other boosters tout Belogour’s significant effort to hire locally—nearly all of the contractors he’s hired to renovate the properties have come from the nearby towns

Liberals, /spit.
Just another Varangian looting and pillaging for fun and profit.
The only thing worse than our native American crooks is foreign crooks, which is what Belogour seems to be. The idea that Belogour honestly made his money as a currency speculator is ludicrous in that Belarus’s controlled economy makes currency speculation virtually a synonym for corruption, fraud, and money laundering. Since Belarus is governed by a Russian aligned dictator, Lukashenko, Belogour is almost certainly a front man for stolen wealth and indirectly allied to Putin. Poke deep enough, my guess is that Hunter Biden is somewhere in the mix as well.

Perfect!

Bigger than Joe the jamoke?
NOWAY!
It seems to me it should be illegal for noncitizens to own American land.
Somebody has to do it.
—”There was a similar panic about Japan buying up all of New York... It’s still there. “
At that time the reply was, sell it, they cannot take it back to Japan.
And Yes it is still there.
—”we will gladly sell it to you.”
Need any rope with that order?
( ‘The last capitalist we hang shall be the one who sold us the rope.’)
“There was a similar panic about Japan buying up all of New York a few decades back. It didn’t pan out. It’s still there.
Some Japanese did buy The Pebble Beach Golf Club back then, causing panic in some circles. They paid $8 billion, sold it for $4 billion a few years later.

Same mother different brother?
The joke is on him. Wait until he runs up against the likes of Act 250. It has broken many a man of the likes of this guy.
—”sold it for $4 billion a few years later.”
Did they actually collect $4B?
The WSJ called it the worst land deal since Manhattan Island sold for $24 worth of trinkets.
Oligarchs are preparing their future fiefdoms.
The Granola crunching subaru driving Socialists are women and they wear plaid if you get my drift.
Let us math-check this article.
The guy bought 3100 acres = 4.8 square miles.
There are 9,616 square miles.
4.8 divided by 9,616 = .0005 = five one hundreths of one percent.
I know math is racist and everything, but even a cold hearted drooling toothless racist can figure out that five one hundreths of one percent is not exactly “buying up Vermont”.
;-)

I may just watch too much TV.
