I'll consider an electric car when it can compete with a gas powered car in terms of range, time to refuel/recharge, and convenience.

The infrastructure is not there and will not be there for a long time. The push for electric cars is not about the environment but control.

Electric cars have no application for me.

but all these discussion turn into and either or. Electric cars are appropriate for some, not everyone.

Repeat, electric cars are appropriate for some, not everyone.

The problem is government. one size fits all.

We all hated hybrids, but there are some out there, and many here even support them now.

If we have any faith in the market place, it will work it’s way out even in spite of the government.

Excellent post. Same here.

Range and recharging time are major constraints for me.

I drive an F-150 for work with the turbocharged EcoBoost V6 engine and a 36-gallon tank.

At normal highway speeds I can get over 800 miles on a tank of gas. That means if I drive west from New York City, my first fuel stop is west of Chicago. If I go south, I can get to Florida on one tank of gas.

Until electric vehicles can match that kind of performance, I wouldn't even consider one for my business.
