In 2019 I had four to raise; three Walker Dogs and one Plott Hound, Oneida, who is still my Doofus and favorite guy. In 2016 I had a litter of SEVEN to raise - that was our first foray into breeding our own line from some really good dogs. We have two left from that litter; Emma Jolene is on her way to being a raccoon Nite Champion and Osage is our best bear dog.
My job is to keep them fed, safe, healthy, wormed (she’s been wormed) flea & tick stuff on them, and teach them the basic commands, Sit, Stay, Come, Leave It, With Me (on a leash) and then Beau takes over when they’re close to a year to train them to hunt. Shasta will be a bear dog, unless she shows a great aptitude for raccoon. We have ONE dog left from a really great litter, who is both. Lakota is 10, so it’s time to start rebuilding the pack.
These raccoon and bear hunting Hound Dog People! It’s a whole ‘nother world, I tells ya! :)
I’ve had 2 beagles in my life so other hounds remind me of them. :)
