MINNEAPOLIS — The trial of three former Minneapolis police officers charged with aiding and abetting in the death of George Floyd will be pushed back to March 2022, a judge ruled Thursday.

Thomas Lane, J. Alexander Kueng and Tou Thao were scheduled to face trial Aug. 23 on charges they aided and abetted both murder and manslaughter. The officers’ co-defendant, Derek Chauvin, has already been convicted of murder and manslaughter counts. All four officers also face federal charges that allege they violated Floyd’s civil rights during his May 25 arrest.

Speedy Justice?

Some kind of kabuki theater.

People don’t live forever.

How nice to postpone that trial.

Which allows the DOJ to bust their chops on phony baloney Civil Rights Violation Charges.

These poor guys are so SO screwed.

Sixth Amendment to the US Constitution:

In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

In 1967 the US Supreme Court ruled in “Klopfer vs North Carolina” the speedy trial guarantee applies to state courts as well as federal courts.

Six out of 10 people in U.S. jails—nearly a half million individuals on any given day—are awaiting trial. People who have not been found guilty of the charges against them account for 95% of all jail population growth between 2000-2014.

So much for presumption of innocence and right to speedy trial which are supposed to be rights under the Constitution.

It is long past time to remove the phrase “Equal Justice Under Law” from the U.S. Supreme Court Building.

“Equal Justice Under Law”

We certainly now live under MultiLevel versions of The Law.

It’s become totally sick.

And The Legal System is now systematically criminalizing voting for Trump.

We’re headed for a very dark place.

It also conveniently puts the trial near election season.

Bob Paule, Thao's attorney, said in a court filing Wednesday that Baker initially said there was no physical evidence that Floyd died of asphyxiation. But after talking twice to Dr. Roger Mitchell – a former medical examiner in Washington, D.C. – Baker amended his findings to include neck compression as a factor, according to Paule.

Chauvin seeks new trial, impeachment of verdict

He won't get a new trial. Or any reasonable sentence on any of the convictions. The system is afraid of rioting.
