Interestingly, if you look on a box of masks, it even warns that the masks don’t protect against viruses.
But yet you see people like Fauci wearing them plus other learned politicians and like folks.

Mask boxes are labelled that way because of Federal Food Drug & Cosmetic Act granting the Secretary of Health & Human Services authority to issue an EUA for it.
EUA letter dated 3/24/2020 says to manufacturers of cloth and nonsurgical masks that they can make them as long as box labelling does not say or imply that it is intended for antimicrobial or antiviral, or for use in infection reduction or prevention.
So, it’s OK for them to say it’s -not- antiviral.
