I hike and I avoid any place where I know there’s hunting going on. And I do wear a bright color vest if it’s any season at all…but he may not have known.
And yes, there are some hunters who are too quick on the trigger or too inexperienced. But that’s no reason to blame all of them.
That said, don’t blame the hiker or the shooter. The hiker probably didn’t know any better and I’m sure the guy who shot him is in total misery right now. I don’t like the jeering at either the unfortunate hiker or the unfortunate hunter that I’m seeing right now.

Always identify the target prior to any shooting. Also, was the hiker off trail or was the shooting on the trail? Why would any hunter set up so close to a hiking trail? I get using it to get to your setup or blind, but one shouldn't be close to a human trail at all.
