South Carolina, Montana, Florida say 'no' to Democrats' vision of 'Layabout Nation'
American Thinker ^ | 7 May, 2021 | Monica Showalter

For Democrats, the ideal world is to have three castes — Big Government overlords who know everything and benevolently do the central planning; a cadre of loyal Big Corporate cronies who share their technology and silence their critics; and...peasants — a huge class of people, every last one of whom is dependent on the government for bodily survival. Beggars, after all, are easiest to please, which is the surest means of creating permanent blocs of Democrat voters. Hard work and individual initiative, after all, are for kulaks — hoarders, wreckers, saboteurs, and counterrevolutionaries, as Stalin, more or less, used to say.

That's what's behind the far-left notions of universal basic income, which is a favorite of the Democratic Socialists of America crowd, including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Based on the past several stimulus packages passed, complete with small packets of "stimulus" cash handed out to the public through the IRS, they've been pilot-fishing this idea for about a year now and getting ready for bigger things.

Just one problem: Nobody wants to work anymore. Huge labor shortages are appearing in the workforce, with most economists attributing the problem to government stimulus payouts, including supplemental checks for the unemployed. That makes it more attractive not to work than to actually work. Work under such conditions is for suckers. And small businesses in particular, hardest hit by the coronavirus, as well as the ugly prospect that they can capriciously be shut down again while bigger corporate rivals won't be, are looking at a multiple-whammy on the labor front. If the COVID shutdowns didn't get these small businesses, this labor shortage brought on by stimulus handouts will.

A couple of quick observations.....

1. Unemployment is not welfare, no more than SSI is. You and your employer are forced to pay a premium every month to have it. It is literally a mandatory insurance policy issued by the government.

2. The greatest impediment to workers returning to the workforce is that schools and daycare basically unavailable. Most of the missing workforce is young (’20s-’30s). One parent is now forced to be home while their children are home.

Are some taking advantage, of course? But the vast majority are home for other causes....

This is not a new idea:

Quotes from "The Russian Revolution" by Alan Moorehead 1958

"… this was a predatory state which the Czar and a small group of noblemen and bureaucrats ruled for their own exclusive benefit...The ruling group owned all the wealth, enjoyed all the privileges and monopolized all the political power, and it did not intend to give up any of its prerogatives. It considered the peasants to be little better than animals..."

When you have an additional $600 pet week on top of unemployment, you need to pay $30/hr to get people off their butts and working again. That’s stupid and unsustainable.

Here everyone (Publix to mom and pop stores) are trying to get help. A family Dollar near my office closes at 3... No one wants to work... One of my friend's son is a chef... he been offered jobs at high end restaurants, but he is loyal to his boss and he is getting 27 an hour... 45 hours at least. He knows he can make more, but his boss took a chance on him (Friend's son was in drugs and was arrested. When he got out after a year... No one wanted to hirwe him, except for his boss... Hard worker... His boss gave him a profit sharing of the restaurant.)

The kid has a girlfriend and they want to get married, but they don't have time.

Unemployment is based on the highest amount per quarter, my highest quarter amount was over 16k, my 6 month ui payout was 11k with a little extra from uncle surgery came to just over 12k. Before I was laid off I made over 26.00 hr. Ui didn’t come close.

Bolshekrats buy votes with taxpayer funds, so that, their voters can lay on the couch smoking cartel weed. Sooner or later, the taxpayer will figure he can lay on couch and get paid. Bolshies, will just print more money to pay their voters. Cartels will launder more money to Bolshekrats, so that, Bolshie voters can buy more weed.

If my kids were little and I could stay home with them instead of hauling them to day care at the butt-crack of dawn while I worked 10 hours a day in a factory, I’d sure enough stay home with them as long as I could.

Kids and a home used to be considered a respectable full-time job.

Most unemployment in Sothern states is around $250/week or $1000/month......

Not exactly setting the world on fire.....

That is why President Trump approved and advocated the additional $300/week.....The additional is a temporary stop-gap measure that will disappear in September.

He clearly understood that without it, until schools and daycares re-opened, many families would unreasonably suffer due to no fault of their own.

Don’t listen to the talking points of the US Chamber of Commerce.....They are evil people who do not represent the American people just large multinational businesses.
