I never thought it would happen to me!
April 16th, Kiteboarding at Desoto Beach Florida, I fell and when I stood up Bam!! Stingray Barb right in the bottom of my foot!! The bastard got me good because the water turned Crimson around me almost immediately! I made my way back into the beach, wrapped my foot the best I could, stowed my gear in the van and headed to Palm Medical Center near Treasure Island.
Long story short, I got 2 X-rays on my foot to check for pieces of the Barb, a little saline flush syringe, and the Doc glued the loose skin and filled the hole. Told me no water for 2 weeks... I came home!
Last week I got 2 calls from their billing department. the first was mild, but the second one today, was pushy, trying to get me to sign up for Medicaid to pay for the bill. The first call wouldnt tell me the amount. but told me they would send the bill in the mail. Today's call, told me the amount was $8000 and change... I said are you Bleeping kidding my?? 2 xrays, a plastic syringe douche and glue is 8K???? Her response!?? Well if you sign up for Medicaid, they will pay it no problem!!!
I lost it and told her that I think I'm getting ripped off, and i'll be damned if I'm gonna allow you to rip of the Tax payers!!
Now granted, 8K isnt jack in the medical field. but its just the friggin point... How determined the girls were to get me to sign up to pay the bill... friggin Crazt!!
so, I think its a clear case of fraud... who do I lay this on for the best results??
I am not responsible for the cost of others who do not pay. The only reason hospitals treat people who do not pay and incur those costs is because the government requires them to. The same goes for the ambulance company.
OK.
So, what was your financial plan if you had a medical emergency away from home, or even at home, for that matter?
No longer federal mandate. You do not have to have Ins. If no insurance they no longer charge you a 600 penalty.
In nys there is no work requirement to get medicaid.
Your question doesn't make any sense. What does my plan for healthcare coverage have to do with me not wanting to pay for other people's medical treatment?
It astonishes me the number of people who will advocate communism in healthcare while at the same time opposing Obamacare. It's no wonder the left thinks we're all stupid.
Read again. You also don’t understand what the law regarding a charge master is for a hospital. It is all explained in my first post on this thread. Toj are the one with a knowledge deficiency as to the regulations on health care
Read what? You have yet to say anything that justifies one patient having to pay another patient's bills apart from that's just how the system works. That's how communism works too, but that doesn't make it right and it doesn't mean we should submit.
I thought I was responding to sit-rep, the guy who started this thread.
Read my first post which explains why billing is the way it is. You have no idea why hospital billing is accomplished the way it is. Mostly regulatory.
And the idiot who wrote this vanity is comfortable having tens of thousands of toys and trips but decided not to take care of his insurance needs. The rolled the dice and lost. But now wants to screw the people who he ran to when he needed help
It is disgusting. And it reveals that so called conservatives on this board are really not self sufficient but want others to pay for their necessities while they play.
Yes, I read your post and you are still dodging the question. We know how the system works. The point is the system is corrupt and immoral. It's just organized theft. The OP didn't say he wouldn't pay for his treatment. He just doesn't want to get ripped of by being forced to pay for others as well. You still haven't said why he should do that apart from just chanting that it's how the system works and you don't understand, etc.
Consider this analogy:
It's as though you were standing in a long line to buy a glass of lemonade. Way down at the front of the line, at the stand itself, there's a large sign proclaiming:
"Lemonade: 5¢ a glass - but we will also add on the cost of all the scofflaws, illegal aliens, and drink-and-runners to the price of the glass you drink, otherwise we will go bankrupt, since we are required by law to serve anyone who shows up!"
So if you choose to stand in that line, you are tacitly agreeing to these conditions (which are well known to every adult American).
sit-rep was well aware of the general situation here in America at this time. He understands that Emergency Rooms are not allowed to turn away anyone seeking medical attention, etc. He knows what insurance is - but chooses to not insure himself.
This is an example of "informed consent." So he got everything that was coming to him.
Regards,
You’re looking too deep into my response to sit_rep. When I started my business, I too had to cut insurance. My wife had a small issue which cost us 20k. We negotiated with the hospital to 2k. Which was reasonable. I should have said “Government meddling in the medical field has caused a lot of our problems”
Fair enough. Apologies
I guess you just don’t get it. He is deciding to use a service that is expensive. The system is the system. But he made a choice. The system is called self insurance. He knew the risk and blew money on everything fun and didn’t take care of his fundamentals. Now he is willing to screw the people who are required by law to help him.
Sorry. We all have to deal with the system. I am not a fan. But of course if this idiot showed up and didn’t want to pay I should be able to refuse service to him. But I can’t. If you would be willing to state no one physician or provider should be forced to take care of someone who cannot pay then I am fine as it is an equal playing field for people who don’t want to make sure they can cover their individual health care costs.
Indeed I choose not to insure myself... But that sure af doesn’t mean I’m ok to screw. You are a poster boy for a system that is a mess. That’s... If I got a bill for 2500 or 3k I would have paid it on the spot. But 8k for 2 x-rays and a fkn spot of glue is criminal. You’re defending that so I say go piss up a rope. I may be dumb but I’m not stupid...
Why do you insist on twisting words and distorting facts on this thread. I NEVER said I wasn’t going to pay. I said AFTER THE OUTRAGEOUS AMOUNT I WAS BILLED, that that amount I WILL NOT PAY!! Stay in perspective or the discourse or STFU...
👍
I wait 6 months and let it go to a third party collection company. that 8 K will come down to about 1500 to 1900. I pay for it immediately.
without argument, that is prior intent to not pay. settling with a debt collector that bought your bad debt is not the same as paying your health care provider.
Then you said:
. . . I feel warranted screwing them because they try’d to screw me.
that is further prior intent to defraud.
you are not only dumb and stupid, but you’re also dishonest. we all paid for your sporting misadventure, all because you think that being a colossal dick about the simple social obligation of carrying health insurance somehow makes you a hero.
Your words. You are going to let it go to collections. You are happy to screw people who are required to care for you while you are our lavishing yourself with toys and vacations. And you will determine what you think you should lay. But you are the reason the system is screwed up. You brag about how much you spend on toys and are happy to let those who rendered you care because you hurt yourself while playing wait six months for their just payment. Tell you what. Next time. Don’t go. Figure it out yourself. Put a price tag on your leg or your life.
You chose not to act responsibly. It tends to cost more when you don’t see care of things up front. Now you are full of sanctimony playing victim. You are the one screwing the system. You sre either galactically dense or incurable entitled if you don’t see it
By the way to you have car insurance? Or anything insurance to protect yourself? Don’t bother trying to justify your thievery.
