Is Balkanization Inevitable?
American Thinker ^ | 6 May, 2021 | John Green

Despite its flaws, the United States is the greatest country the world has ever known. We don’t need fences to keep people in America and there are no flotillas of refugees escaping to Cuba. Its greatness stems from its foundation of freedom and liberty for everyone.

But in recent years we’re seeing the convergence of some very dangerous societal trends which threaten America. Intersectionality is encouraging divisiveness. The rule of law is transforming into mob rule. Finally, a growing grievance industry is pitting citizen against citizen.

Throughout much of human history, people have organized into tribes. Tribal membership provided a means of survival against predatory animals, natural calamity, and aggressive rival tribes. As a means of personal survival, it worked. However, tribal societies became unnecessary once law and order were codified into civilized society.

Once rules of behavior were defined, and the infrastructure for enforcement was established, individuals no longer needed the protection of the tribe -- they were protected by the rule of law. In America, the rule of law ensures fair treatment, and law enforcement provides protection from threats. With that, tribal identities dissolved and America proudly became the great melting pot. Our national identity emerged. Citizenship in America became our shared identity. Tribal membership became a relic of the past -- and that was a good thing.

Our Constitution provided the framework for us to correct our own flaws. In pursuit of the ideals expressed in the Constitution we defeated slavery and systemic racism. By the late 20th century, we were well on our way to realizing the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Unfortunately, for some years now, we’ve begun throwing away this hard-earned progress. The ideology of intersectionality is encouraging tribalism. In addition, the diversity training industry is encouraging people to embrace their various

The answer is absolutely the balkanization is inevitable at least for the foreseeable future....

Look at where people are moving to and where they are moving from....

to a degree we already have red vs blue America and that trend is accelerating...

One major difference between the actual Balkans and the United States is that the region is divided among numerous ethnic groups, many languages, and three religions: Catholicism, Orthodoxy, and Islam. No power ever completely dominated the region, the closest being the Ottoman Empire. While America is culturally divided, a better analogy would be to Spain in the 1930s, a nation politically divided between traditionalists and fascists and Communists and socialists.

Given the choices offered, the division by balkanization seems to be the least bloody. Resolve all these “blue” enclaves into separate little entities, as most are not contiguous, but concentrated around metropolitan areas that may be widely separated from each other. The other “red” parts are very nearly contiguous, and stretch into just about every state in the contiguous forty-eight.

Divide up by congressional districts, or by county lines, and the result is much more apparent, as the red areas spread across state lines, where interests converge in support of the “traditional” form of government that has served the United States of America so well, based on the Declaration of Independence and the US Constitution, and the body of law that has grown up through the centuries of interpretation by the Congress and supported by historic findings by the Supreme Court.

The “blue” enclaves can set up whatever kind of cockamamie regime they think best suits them, and try their luck at making it work “this time”. But keep in mind there have to be very strictly enforced boundaries between the proclaimed “red” and “blue” regions, with limited emigration from each. Inevitably, there will be persons whose sympathies lie with the establishment of the “other” district, and after vetting their beliefs and being found to be more compatible with the competing districts, be allowed to make a ONE-TIME crossover, no do-overs. Trade and exchanges between the larger nearly contiguous “red” region and the scattered “blue” enclaves would be strictly regulated, and only goods of value would pass through the frontiers. Contraband and human smuggling would be prohibited in all instances, and enforcement is swift and severe for infractions.

"balkanization is inevitable........Look at where people are moving to and where they are moving from...."

In the last paragraph: "The 2022 elections will be here soon. It is time for all Americans to stand up and say no. We will not tolerate the Balkanization of America."

It might be too late to stand up. The left has already proven they have complete control of the US government when nothing was done about 2020 election and other corrupt cases in the past. If you live in area of the country that is corrupt and Democratic control, you need to relocate your family now. Time is short. You do not want to live in the future Democratic Dictator control region.

Millenials I work with think we should do away with playing the national anthem at sporting events (Reddit told them its stupid).

I explained to them how the world works: At sporting events, you have two large groups of men that hate the other people’s team, while their players beat up/get beat up by the opposing teams players.

Get rid of the things that unify the crowd, like the national anthem and within 10 years you’ll have Yugoslavia. Its a madness of crowds thing. If anyone thinks liberal professors don’t know this, they are confused.

Probably. What exactly it will look like and how it manifests itself remains to be seen. Whatever, federalism and how far it can go and where the line will drawn by the federal government will be the test. I don’t foresee secession maybe semi-autonomous regions similar to the Canada/Quebec relationship. Actually, federalism is already being push by both sides; on the Left there’s California a Sanctuary state and several sanctuary cities. On the Right we’re seeing Sanctuary states and cities developing around 2nd amendment rights and 1st amendment rights (wokeness, cancel culture, big tech). So, next couple of election cycles should be interesting...

How we resolve the weird dynamic that exists in several states will be key. Atlanta vs. Georgia, Philadelphia vs. Pennsylvania, Detroit vs. Michigan, etc ... How does a state separate itself from a city?

Meanwhile, even as these political divisions exist, our society is unraveling. We basically live in the world of the first Mad Max movie. It hasn’t crashed yet, but things are coming apart.

The further blacks get from emancipation, the worse off they are.... despite trillions spent to improve their station and decades of affirmative action. Reality eventually comes regardless of all efforts to ignore it.

Brilliantly put. I never even considered that angle. Very interesting perspective.

Problems start, evolve, and fester in high density population centers. If people live like rats, they act like them. If New York and California feel in the ocean how many problems would be left? If the Great Lakes swallowed a few problems that would also help. And the Rats think flooding millions of people in from the south is going to help.

The United States is divided into patriots and lying, murderous traitors. The latter are also known as Demonicrats.

This article is moronic. Is balkanization inevitable? Inevitable? It’s been here for years. Democrats, even entire Democrat states boycott red states, attack those who don’t follow their beliefs or want to follow the Constitution. They attack economically, using propagandic news, physically with mobs, and use political intimidation. Good grief.

Democrats have even balkanizatized America along racial lines.

I don’t have a real solution, but I sort of wish we had the concept of City States. Pennsylvania deserves real political representation. I suppose Philadelphia also deserves something. But it does not deserve to dominate the entire state. Some number of large metropolises ought to be in a special category that limits their ability to control people who live far away from urban areas.

The core problem is that those living in red state areas are a subject people.

All of our institutions are controlled by the left. Media, universities, and corporations are all based in blue areas and used to subjugate the rest of the nation.

For years I have heard the ‘ol America is a melting pot... and Canada is a mosiac.

It was probably propaganda or myth or someones desirous goal that it be so. And to control the mosaic is the goal...so a positive spin is applied, the resistance is lined up to be crushed, but that’s a later “milestone” to be mitigated.

They changed the Virginian state song. To a better one.

Wanna change the National anthem? Didn’t the NSDAP do that. Okay I have a suggestion, let’s Disney that MF’er...

How about those 5 notes from Close Encounters of the 3rd kind... Loud, heavily synthesized, with LOTS of subwoofer.

Well said. Another aspect of the uniqueness of the Balkins is that many areas are topographically isolated from one another leading to an enhancement of the tribalism.

Not so much a factor in today’s world as in the past but it it still contributes to the mixed bag of influences upon those cultures.
