I missed responding to the discussion the other day about how to help a fellow Freeper get a new laptop by contributing to a fund for it. Our router was finally killed by visiting lib family and wasn’t replaced until today.
While it seems as if the fund isn’t needed or wanted, I wanted to spell out a solution to the dilemma of how to get money to such a person should this need or a similar one arise.
1) Agree on a major online vendor, such as Walmart.com. I know there are good and well reasons not to support fascist major retailers who are increasingly becoming more fascist, but when it comes to helping someone get a laptop, this is probably the most feasible way to go.
2) Everyone who wants to contribute buys a giftcard for that retailer.
3) Everyone who bought a giftcard Freepmails the giftcard number and or pincode to the intended recipient.
4) The recipient then opens a shopping account with that retailer, if he or she doesn’t already have one, and inputs all the giftcard numbers to get the value for these cards onto the account.
5) That person then shops for an acceptable item and buys it.
