Reductio ad absurdum

can be used as a proper syllogism IF you show the accepted Propositions logically lead to a contradiction of known and accepted facts.

Kinda like the contrapositive, if you know what I mean.

...and, with regards to your esteemed correspondent to whom you addressed that post, you forgot one:

ad nauseum. :-)
